Why rush all of this?

they’ve been all in on this speeded up storytelling from the get go and it doesn’t look as that will change anytime soon. why? to attract the 18-49 demo. begs the question: are there enough of them to offset those of us who are their way out?

Once again, we're led to believe Leslie has unlimited resources. Now she's going to dedicate and build at the country club? Are you kidding me with this? We'd better hear that Leslie doesn't have anywhere NEAR the amount of money she's spending.

-- Leslie's plans are all at warp speed, too. Terrible pacing.

this same kind of money nonsense was on the gilmore girls. rory’s father starts paying for her last two years at yale.  so richard and emily decide to use the money they’re savings — tops, $250,000 — to endow a building in rory’s name when in reality they’d have to add a couple of zeros.

i could hand wave that because the money never made any sense on that show. but here, when leslie — and i just about done with writing her as a cartoon — can use that money to drive story?  sorry!

June's just being human, though. I never was a good waitress and even when I last tried, in my mid-40s, I was terrible at it. It is NOT easy, and I have several college degrees.

As for Nicole/Ted/SPS, I think SPS may pull a Nola Reardon (just without a pregnancy). He will probably stop and she will claim it went all the way (because he's wasted).

I don't mind that. I believe it was @Soaplovers now who suggested this story beat be done before the Ty/Sam reveal to give her rooting value. Building the character up. Which would have been great BEFORE the reveal. Post-reveal, it just feels meh. And I have liked the June storyline for the most part. As someone who has tried serving and is industry adjacent, I found it relatable.

If only.

June's struggle to get her life back together would have provided months of story, with it's ups and downs.

Same. And I was for the story before now.

As for Samantha and the never seen before guy who she fell for on his first day on the show... and what happened to her brother's love interest?

tbf, at least he was mentioned before he showed up.

As for Ty's girl, she vanished and they apparently broke up over her looking at colleges. And Ty still hasn't made it up to her if I am remembering correctly.

That's if a ton of classical soap fans are actually on the way out. I don't see much evidence of that yet, and I don't think it's that simple. And I am someone who thinks the day to day writing and pacing has a ton of issues lol. But the reality is that BTG's blended old/new audience isn't going away (probably) and they're going to have to find a way to handle both of them, or train one or the other to accept a modulated pacing.

I don't think 'June works at Orphey Gene's' is an actual storyline. I think it's a place to give her a spot as a supporting character/talk-to. I would rather she be gone completely as I can't tolerate her lol, but I think it's a positioning thing. Other stories are far more sped up.

I mean...didn't the second set of repeats do pretty well?

I do agree though. While I'm enjoying this week so far...comments aside...the pacing does seem to be having more of an issue than it usually does. Going back to what I said about them being better off either focusing on one of their A stories with other stories around it, OR a STRONG B story (which right now is really the Doug/Vanessa/Joey storyline), OR do what they just did with an event a la Chels's kidnapping with some subplots.

What they should've done is establish that Andre, Ashley and Naomi/Jacob lived in the same building. Build one set and re-dress it to work as all three apartments. That way everybody could have a bedroom and living room set. We rarely see these sets at the same time so it would've been very doable.

I like that idea.

They have doe some re-dressing at some point, no? I figured they would eventually since because Naomi/Jacob can't just stay in their bedroom.

Now if Andre created a romantic night in Paris for Dani, you know we would've gotten an off the charts heat generating love scene set to an R&B slow jam 🥰 🤤

Hehe. You ain't wrong, either.

Just checking in. I'm up to Chelsea's kidnapping and the "wedding" with Allison.

First of all, I have nothing but praise for the actress playing Allison. I've watched a lot of soap crazies and she's doing everything right. She genuinely makes my flesh crawl. I still don't care about Chelsea but the eps with her and Allison in the cabin kept my attention. I also like Kat and Jacob as crime-fighting partners.

Looking back I really enjoyed the Articulettes storyline but I'm disappointed that it got used to make Leslie/Dana rich. I confess that I'm tired of her and would like a break.

I've refrained from naming actors who I think are weak links but IMO the actor playing Tomas needs to go especially if Kat/Tomas/Eva are supposed to be a triangle. I'm thinking a young Kamar de los Reyes type. (May he R.I.P.)

I'm really enjoying Nicole on a lot of levels. She is over this mess.

Yay!! Good to see you commenting.

And young Kamar de los Reyes type would totally work in that triangle.

I also thought the actress playing Allison has done a good job giving us soap crazy, but while RonniRose has improved she really struggled through a lot of the kidnapping material for Chelsea. I will say she is handling the aftermath better.

Same. The actress playing Allison won me over with her coco for cocoa puffs antics and even got a read in on Chels. I would not mind her coming back for an arc.

And I agree on RR. My interest was maintained during the kidnapping. But I feel she's really doing some good subtle work in the aftermath.

-- Samantha wants to know when June had her first period? OK then.

I thought that was so weird too. Her reasonings for not going to any of the 6 close women in her family makes no sense (except Chelsea right now)... and then she wants to ask June about her first period and losing her virginity?  Big yikes.

  • Keeping Up with the Duprees? Oh, please spare me that reference. I cannot.
  • Poor Ted probably dreamt that happened, and with Nicole of all people.
  • Aw, at least June is trying to get the hang of it, right? Her personality fits, but execution needs some help.
  • It is nice to see Eric giving June a chance at Orphey Gene's.
  • I appreciate the continued talking between Anita and her family members, especially her children. That relationship should be very well seen, and I appreciate seeing it
  • Dana is delusional; she took advantage of someone not in their right mind, used them for sexual gratification, and cannot take "no" for an answer. Seek help, Dana. Seek it, fast!
  • I understand Samantha's need for a female POV in her life, and I also understand everyone else's hesitation for her wanting to reach out to June, but it is Samantha's choice at the end of the day.
  • Wow. So that customer is going to stand up for June? That is very, very sweet of her to do! I love that.

Notes:

  • As I said yesterday, I love that Orphey Gene's is going to have a recurring employee we will be seeing from time to time and not random under-fives (if at all). Building from within with some established characters and actors.
  • The inclusion of "Forever Bae" was amazing. Such a nice, unique touch. Hope more of this happens.

This is what I'm referring to. Odd story choices.

And-too many characters who we never see working.

Andre (unless it's story related). Never see him refer to an assignment, or at his studio in the middle of something, when say Dani arrives.

Vanessa the real estate agent with no office and tons of free time.

Nicole the psychiatrist who never has a patient.

Martin the politician, Smitty the journalist, Naomi the lawyer, Ted the surgeon and so on.

I understand it's not a documentary, but it might be nice to see them in some sort of work related scenes.eg  Nicole finishing up with a patient, Andre showing Dani some shots he's been working on etc

Choosing all these different occupations and not having sets for them is a negative.

To be fair to the writers, aspects of the character's professions have played a role in story lines to varying degrees. I think the professions will be showcased as story line dictates.

It was an odd story beat to say the least, especially since the actress playing Samantha looks late 20s. Although, I do think she's one of the better actors on the show.

Grrrr...

I actually bought Ted jumping into bed with Leslie-he was drunk and depressed and it fits in with the trajectory we've had since the recast.

The follow up was good as TMG played Leslie's rejection well. And Ambyr was good with the fallout.

And then we see the CC chairperson and I'm thinking this should be good...

And then the ridiculous announcement about the sportscenter. FCOL how much money has Anita put in that trust fund??

Why go with this nonsense when they could have gone with something more believable. eg Leslie getting some dirt on the chairperson and using that info to get into the CC.

That was a good scene that at first would assume would be played for laughs, but TMG really added layers to that scene.

They have given Leslie too much power to the point it makes the Dupree family look pathetic. The only home she should’ve been able to get in Fairmount crest should’ve been right by the gate entrance and been one of the smallest in the neighborhood. She should’t have access to the country club either.
