Wait, what?

So, Martin’s not running for President anymore? Just like that?

I didn’t expect this storyline to be long term but I would’ve liked to see it play out for a little while longer, or at least until Martin’s secret was revealed. And definitely not fade out with a whimper. Sort of like Naomi’s lawsuit against Bill’s firm; what was the point of it all if it was just gonna wrapped up so easily and (probably) forgotten about?

Really? But it was sooooo unrealistic. At least they found a legit reason for him to not run (SilkPress Sheila ain't no punk or joke...lol).

Randy (Doug's friend who works for Joey) -- Joey told Randy weeks ago that Joey's plan was to get Doug into so much debt that Doug would be forced to get Vanessa's real estate holding turned over to Joey, to use for money-laundering.  That's been the plan all along, which the viewers knew.  The only thing new is that Joey finally told Doug this.

Well tbf it sounded like he was joking. So I didn't think he was serious until yesterday. And I felt...THAT'S IT? So it's good he said it aloud to Doug's face so there was no way to mistake how the scene was played...which well I did. Seems so...simple?...given what's been at play with Doug and Vanessa.

As I've said before I don't believe the fact that both sisters have cheating husbands (one in the past, one more recently) is a coincidence or anything random. It's pre-thought and pre-planned and the message is clear. Cheaters can be found in all shapes, forms and sizes. Some do it in the most blatant way, they are known serial cheaters and their wives know of their past hook ups (as Dani has already said... she was willing to forgive Bill for his previous mistresses... till Hayley came) and some are more masterfully disguised in the image of the perfect husband. The fact that Dani was jealous of her sister Nicole's happy marriage in the first episodes was not a coincidence. I knew it the first second I heard it. It made me wonder and think what is beneath Nicole and Ted's picture perfect life. The show painted two very different sisters and then gave them the same crisis. It was intentional and dramatically focused on how these women acted after that... How they kept or did not keep their dignity. The contrasts and the similarities are not random. They connected the two stories very well. Telling us that beyond the gates there are secrets... lies and betrayals. And sometimes the happiest ones have the biggest skeletons in their closets.

Is all of this a cliche? A soap opera serial cliche? Yes. Does it still work? Yes. And did we need to start with something that is more universal and easier to stomach by the mass audience? Yes. This is only the beginning of the show in terms of stories and themes. We will have years ahead of us to explore different aspects of these people. The first couple of months it had to be a classic sex and betrayal story that makes more people hooked. It's universal.

Again. Nothing so far about both husbands being cheaters is coincidental for me. It's too early for that.

+1. I agree.

I absolutely love the idea of Krista Allen being on the show. I wouldn't saddle her with Jen though. I'd create a brand new character for her. She could be a diva who lives Beyond The Gates and is gradually seen at the country club. Then I'd do a slow roll out where the Duprees don't like her and her family because she is part of the first white family that "infiltrated" Beyond The Gates. Then slowly...and I mean slowly...expand Krista's character's family as a rival to the Duprees as some have said the show should have. A younger son to mix it up with Chelsea/Kat, a daughter to maybe run for office against Martin. Krista Allen could easily be a great matriarch for a rival family.

Love this. And it would be part the show being meta again and a refreshing twist since the tale of a black family moving into a white neighborhood has been told, but the opposite...?

So whats the alternative, everyone be demure and have no negative qualities? There are tons of characters and none of this describes most of them. The show has a wide range of characters. Some good, some bad and some a bit of both. Its a BLACK soap opera. We need black villians that cause trouble and move the stories along

.

I have to say it, who in God's country wants watch that on a daytime soap opera? There are plethora of other outlets for that.

Would've loved a more powerful exchange between Nicole and Leslie such as this.

The alternative is to tell TRUE black struggle and not be so seemingly cartoonish.

Eva is still the breakout character though. I’m looking forward to seeing where she goes from here with everyone, especially if the twist that we’re all suspecting turns out to be true.

And I did find the gambling storyline interesting finally, now that we know Joey’s endgame. I’d like to see it play out and to see what happens to everybody involved in it.

As for Derek/Ashley… I wonder how it would’ve played out if they actually had cast Mike Manning as Derek. Yeah, the writing isn’t there but I imagine that Derek would have more of a personality lol and I also imagine that it would’ve made Ron Carlivati’s head explode 😂😂😂😂

Ben Gavin did look hot though

Martin running for president was a main characterization for him. I do not like how they are not holding things together with these characters and plots.

The only thing Martin running for president do was showcase how arrogant and defiant he is. Ignoring his grandparents concerns, giving him a god complex that his secret wouldnt be revealed and how selfish he was in comparisons to his dreams vs Smitty. That was the characterization it gave him and he still possess those traits. Its okay to move away from that given what just happened to his family. Knowing he has a huge secret, it never made sense for him to want to run for president and he's finally thinking logically.

Besides a presidential run wouldnt happen for another 3 years anyway so all the show would be doing is having him just talk about this by which point the characters will not even be in the same place. It wasnt a plo but something that would have had to cookign the background and tings move too fast to expect that to still be a thing when the time would come. Martin's secret most certainly will have been revealed thus killing any run he would have wanted anyway

More Tide on display today haha.

I like how Martin is trying to include Eva, but yeah, Kat's not having it and won't for a long time.

Leave GOD out of it. Just saying. For so many reasons.

This and Nicole spraying Febreze don't bother me. When they write it into the dialogue is when it's a no for me.

I'm for Kat vs Eva every day of the week!
