DAYS: May 2025 Discussion Thread

Oh, I liked O.G. Rachel, too. But this one seems to be projecting in her acting as if in a theatre; it's a very different take on the role. Both are nice, though. And yes, nü Rachel did just get cast in the Little House reboot as Laura Ingalls (originally played by Melissa Gilbert).

As for whether she'll continue on DAYS, who knows? I am sure TPTB could give her time off to film eight to ten episodes of a television series for Netflix (which may not even last beyond a singular season).

The Miracle of Versavix causes me to break my promise not to talk about it…

Today, we learned that Versavix doesn’t just treat sepsis—it reverses organ damage. Remarkable. Somewhere, fake-Dr. Joe Scanlon from Port Charles is owed a Nobel Prize. And meanwhile, Brady continues to fumble the bag, somehow failing to recognize the enormous financial and medical potential of a drug being administered to his own uncle. Classic Brady.

Consistency has been off recently

I blame my confusion on their taping out of order.  Jada has seen Shawn today.  In the square, they saw each other in an epsisode last week, and spoke about Bo.  So, why is she asking Belle if he is sick?  Much like when Marlena made peace with EJ last Tuesday, and then snarled at him on Friday.

Meanwhile… There’s a Meth Lab on the Docks?

The ongoing fixation on Philip’s recent scuffle—an incident that poses no broader public danger—is bizarre when you consider there's an actual meth lab operating on the docks. You’d think that would be the more pressing law enforcement priority. But this is Salem.

Nu-Rachel: A Star is Scheming

I have to admit, I like nu-Rachel. The previous actress skewed a bit too Wednesday Addams—brooding, but not calculating. This Rachel is clearly playing the long con. During a tea party, she casually dropped the Johnny adoption bombshell, and now she’s planting seeds of doubt about his character. She’s manipulating Kristen with finesse, all while hiding behind her frilly dresses and conveniently timed tummy aches. It's not easy for a young actor to play a convincing liar, but this one is pulling it off.

That said, after mentioning John just yesterday, it’s strange that Kristen hasn’t visited him—especially considering the hospital is within walking distance. I suspect this has less to do with realism and more with the show avoiding flashbacks of John and Kristen.

Corporate Confusion: Salem-Style

Speaking of odd choices, why is Alex operating out of an actual office while Xander, the CEO, runs his empire from a barstool with a cell phone? Salem business logic strikes again.

Julie, Maggie, and the Case of the Vanishing Money

It is nice to see Julie back doing hospital board work. That tracks, especially given her long history with the hospital, dating back to when Vivian Alamain first made a sizable donation upon arriving in Salem.

But are we really pretending Maggie doesn’t have the means to buy the hospital outright? Between the Kiriakis fortune and her own assets—not to mention the mansion she could easily leverage—Maggie could outbid just about anyone in town. Let’s not forget: she married Victor, a man who funded an entire wing.

Maggie actually said to Kayla she didn't have enough liquid assets to buy the hospital a few weeks ago during the auction.  I guess she could sell off some homes and cars or refinance to make it happen, but she was basically giving all she could in the moment.  She also gave payouts to Victor's family that was left out of his will awhile back.  From the details we are getting EJ is using his own personal fortune and Xander is using Titan Dimera money.

I don't buy it (forgive the pun).

I think all that was true before Xander left the mansion, but now she has a motive to raise the money, and I think she still owns plenty that could be leveraged.

I'm really trying to point out, that it seems silly that it is a two-man race, when there are plenty of other rich people in town.

Who was worth more, Stefano or Victor?  I would argue the problem with being Stefano's heir is that the estate was divided nine different ways.  Whereas, Victor's fortune was virtually split in half.

But why would Maggie want to deal with owning the hospital?  What does she gain?  People could buy the hospital in town, but only a few know or care about the drug which is the only reason these two jokers want the hospital.

Sure, Sarah keeps her job, but Sarah is a Dr. of all trades.  She can find a new place to practice.

I think Stefano and Victor were both equally rich lol.

I would argue that the EJ/Belle pairing has been well explained.

Shawn left Belle feeling vulnerable, and unloved, because she has a savior complex and he is healing his addiction on his own.  EJ makes her feel needed, he appreciates her legal mind, and they have good physical chemistry.

To me, the scene that solidified the relationship was when she tried to break up with him, and he said that he refused to absolve of her guilt. It really explained all that we needed to know about that dynamic.  And, despite my frequent pokes at Belle, it showed that she has gone into this relationship with her eyes wide open.  She is not being conned, nor is she using him as a rebound.  She is genuinely attracted to him, and she can't shake the feeling.

And, TBH, you don't want soaps to go back to being morality plays, where the audience is treated as if they only understand moral absolutism, and can't appreciate shade of gray.

EJ raped Belle's sister more than once.  He tried to kill John.
I don't think it's being overly moral for a viewer like myself to want her away from him. Personally I don't find rapists entertaining.   And there's nothing that will justify it (for me).

I think that for me, there is so much darkness and hatred in the real world nowawadays that I want my fictional dramas to have the bad guys lose.

I don't need (or want) a show to be all sunshine and roses.  I watch L&O.SVU.   It's nuanced and shows various points of view, but in the end, the goal is to punish the rapist, and I find that satisfying.

Belle doesn't have a "savior complex" she has a half assed martyr hoe complex. See her staying with sponge bob square head Faux Philip(KB)cause he was injured overseas in war & he was "the father of her baby" like it was the 1950s or something. Not out of some true love kinda ish. That's what she told Shawn as to why she couldn't be with him despite cheating with him behind Phil's back. I didn't care but a spade is a spade cause that logic went straight out the window once Shawn moved on with Mimi & stopped letting her string him along. The minute he found someone else & she couldn't string him along while playing house with Phil? It's the minute the facade of her's dropped. Belle just wants to have her cake and eat it too. A self righteous thot who looks down her nose at others Sami, Xander while she lays up with the monster who not only tortured her beloved daddy but her sister & rest of her family. Like her using her daddy "dying" back in 07 as the reason she was having an affair with JKJ Phil & slept with him in her martial bed she shared with her husband. I think it was either before John's funeral or after. Belle's loyalty is too a dick especially one that's not her husbands

Nothing more nothing less you're trying to oversimplify something that doesn't need to be oversimplified.

    • I've always liked Kim Zimmer. She's a very good actress. I think the majority of the resentment comes from how much air she, or rather, Reva, sucked out of the show. There were periods where it felt like it was All Reva, All The Time. So many male characters had to be madly on love with her, even when they had zero chemistry with her. Her rival characters, like Sonni and Annie, were practically turned into psychos (somehow Olivia escaped that fate). She was given bizarre storylines, like the clone and time travel stories, to keep her front burner. It wasn't enough to have ONE bizarre reason she was missing (living with the Amish) she had to have TWO (princess of a Caribbean island, with a secret kid--her second one--to boot). She got an insane amount of attention from TPTB, to the detriment of other characters. Possibly because the actress weaponized her fans. Maybe that's an unfair assessment, but seems to me her day had come and gone and yet she was still centered so much on the show. I agree. In the beginning she was a very good character with a beautifully composed backstory. If they had kept her grounded like that, I am certain few would have complained about her.
    • Very true...and that was the heart of what the character was and excelled at..everyone goes on about the Slut of Springfield scene, but damn, did the writing and acting come together when Reva confronted Pharoh about her early molestation by him.  THAT is the stuff that worked...not being the Queen of a dumb island.
    • Frank Valentini should thank his proverbial lucky stars that JE came out of retirement.
    • I liked Reva, too, but as I've said before, no one at that show besides Pamela K. Long knew how to write for her or for KZ.  You don't plunge a character who is OTT by design into circumstances that are equally (or more) OTT.  The trick with a character like Reva Shayne Lewis is to keep the storylines as down-to-earth as possible and allow her emotions to be bigger.  I've always said that both Reva and KZ were at their finest when they were dealing with relatively mundane things like Josh's paralysis, her marriage to H.B. and her pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage.
    • I agree!  AE was just one of those performers who could draw you in, no matter what.  I don't believe I ever saw her phone in any performance on any show.  To me, she always gave 100%.  God, how I miss seeing her on TV every day.
    • Did OLTL have books in 80's like the other soaps that covered the early storylines of the show?
    • I liked (not loved) the character of Reva. I just didn't like how she ate the show.
    • I’ve spent a lot of time at the bedside of dying family members. These hospital scenes feel very real. The entire Days team is doing incredible work.
