Sure that happens in daytime, but in the first month?

We have to remember: this didn't happen as the episodes were airing... this happened before the soap premiered (about three-to-four months), so there must have been something TPTB saw that they wanted changed.

Is that common knowledge, or some industry insider tea?

I don't know the BTS stuff at AN, I only watched the show in the early days of Hulu.

Probably more the latter, although there might be more in the AW thread.

You can't name one character?

There's several re: original castings where they had to put in a placeholder initially and then dumped the actor, yes. The immediate names are escaping me because my mind can only hold so much data at once and it's been a long Monday. I can also think of a couple offhand that are similar situations; for example, IIRC Elaine Princi only got Dorian at OLTL because Robin Strasser flat-out refused to return when asked. So they went out and got Princi, a ringer who was a near-physical double, and as soon as Robin became available again the next regime dumped Princi flat and fairly unceremoniously BTS.

Regardless, we have no idea whether this kind of situation was even the case with Johnson. It's all speculation. All it is right now is simply just another soap recast. Which definitely always happens in the first months, weeks or even days of any new soap. That's just how it is.

Still distasteful, But a little different. Robin previously played the role, this is a new character. Regardless, this is wrong and is another reason why Daytime gets a bad rap.

***All SPECULATION of course ***

I don't know why SAG or whoever hasn't put a rule in place to stop this.

THANK YOU! And it's like suddenly giving the middle 🖕 to all of the people who fell in love with Maurice in that amazingly short period of time.

Yeah, something in the buttermilk ain't clean. We can only hope for a press release on why if we get one at all. Starting off your series like this is a bad look.

It's not wrong or unusual. It's a first recast. And they've happened quicker than this before, lol. There is not going to be a big press release on why they did it. Just the way it is.

There have been plenty of times a new role has been quickly recast and a few instances where an actor cast for a new show never made it to air eg Mary Grover as Leslie on Y&R.

As for a recast on a new show , Santa Barbara replaced Dane Witherspoon as Joe after 3 months.

On Sunset Beach Adrienne Frantz lasted about 4 months before being replaced.

Going way back, ATWT, AW and AMC made quick casting adjustments.

But in 'modern times' BTG sets a record announcing a  replacement after 4 weeks.

From the horse's mouth....neither are true so whoever Sandra Rose is didn't get this from CBS or my co-star. Please don't spread bs that someone pulled out of the air

The chemistry on screen reflects alot and it's definitely not problems. I'm just perplexed as to how one would automatically assume professional, educated actor has on set problems with the person who plays their spouse day in and day out. This is the problem when people want to be first and report something and start a whole narrative themselves. Wait and verify before reposting. I don't know Sandra Rose and out of all of the interviews I've done, this wasn't one.

My original post was directed to what @Taoboi said “Maybe Robinson wasn't available / he could've been her original choice” and if that is true, it is wrong (to me) and I am not changing on it! Just because something is the Norm and/Or common practice does not make it right.

If that's true I don't think its right to let him go, that's unfair! I understand many actors have been replaced at the table read, etc but once a person is already filming I believe they have the right to keep their job until they decide to leave or they did something to get fired.

@Paul Raven Thank you for creating this list of names for me, I greatly appreciate It.

@Errol This is starting to feel like a stunt.

Sunset Beach has a better example - Ashley Hamilton originated the role of Cole and played him for about a month before being replaced with Eddie Cibrian.

Ultimately... they let Maurice go after the first 13 week cycle. Why that happened we do not know. Apparently it wasn't that he wasn't getting along with Duplaix or his choice (per his social media posts). I'd assume they simply had a different direction in mind for Ted and didn't feel like Maurice could pull it off.

That's not the way daytime works. Actors are on 13 week cycles and can be dropped anytime, but have to be paid for that cycle. That is the condition they agree to on signing a contract.

On the upside, it's great to see how many people are already passionate about the show, the characters, and the actors!

Yep. Wait til one of the actors that just bought a house or condo in ATL gets fired. Happens constantly in soaps - an actor will move up stakes and go across the coasts, then end up fired in 13-26 weeks or whatever. That's just the industry.

As expected, there has been a petition started on MJ's behalf. These usually don't work, but I can't help but admire the love and dogged determination. The new guy is going to have to do a lot of ducking because there will probably be a lot of tomatoes being thrown at him. 😲

The way that person instigated this, and then tried to backtrack their own words is hilarious to me. And this is why you don't believe pinch pieces by these no-name "journalists". People online are so gullible, and it truly makes me question a lot of people's mental states.

I can’t believe this show has disgusting ass Sandra Rose making up crap about it for clicks lol

I like Maurice but his slightly messy reposts and likes are what led to this. He opened the door to disgruntled exit allegations which made people run wild with theories on what may have happened. All we really know is that his standard 13 week soap contract cycle came up and he was replaced but now we’ve got theories like “he was never the first choice” “he didn’t get along with Daphnee” and “he couldn’t hack the work load”  being spread around like fact.

The show should have prepared a pr statement for him to use when the recast announcement was made, it might have quailed some of this speculation. Now its gonna be endless mess until he or someone from the show clears it up.
