Let's not forget when this news broke. Without speculating about the reasons, which I am not doing at all, it's interesting that it broke at the end of business on a Friday.

Reminder: News. Dump. Friday.

Yes it was! haha. Taylor Anne Mountz (who I still prefer as Kay TBH) left after a year on the show, (7/5/99-8/2/00)  then they had Gina Marie May play the role for about a month (8/3/00-9/20/00) then Deanna Wright came on (9/25/00-10/6/03)

Camryn Grimes, Zulekya Silver, and Alison Lanier are the three ones I can name immediately off the top of my head.

Meanwhile both Hope and Steffy on B&B are both in their 40’s

Was that all there was? I literally swear reading about 5-6 different actresses but of course that may have been exaggerated lol.

Gina Marie May if I was recall was considered the worst daytime actress ever until Kit Paquin as month long Marina recast on GL and of course the notorious Charity Rahmer recast occurred on Days both in 2004.

Deanna Wright I recall supposedly quit over religious indifferences but later did attempt to be Mac on Y&R but lost out to Rachel Kimsey.

Heidi Mueller played the role from 10/24/03 to the final episode. I think the amount of temp recasts they had made it seem like there were a lot more, and I think almost every main younger character was recast at some point? I know we had Nick Stabile and Priscilla Garita as a temp Fox and Theresa for like 2 months, LOL.

I didn't know Deanna Wright auditioned for Mac...I would have liked to see that honestly!

Lol I was trying to think of good/decent actresses still on a soap today.

I do feel Matula has done better off daytime though. Keep in mind Matula spent her last year with Hope on drugs and sleeping with her husband’s brother in true trashy B&B fashion

I do think her last couple years though were better, I guess because Hope wasn't constantly fighting with Steffy since JMW took a break towards the end of her run. Of course fighting over Liam and Wyatt wasn't any better. LOL

I've watched soaps for decades but I'm wary of recasting adult characters. Particularly when the original has made his stamp on the role. Yes it's only been a month but MJ's Ted was one of my favorites.

On UK soaps there is at least there is a last a significant period of time between recasts. On US soaps Actor #1 appears on a Wednesday and in comes Actor #2 on a Thursday.

Some of the original Y&R and B&B performers were very green but they stuck with them and for the most part the actors improved and the audience accepted them.

Only Judith Baldwin was quickly dropped as Beth on B&B.

Hopefully Maurice was on good terms with TPTB and it was mutual.

Because if they were making changes on who wasn't working a few others would be ahead in the line.

    • Oh wow! She's only 15, but I guess with shorter streaming seasons that might not be an issue.    Her dad, Dean Armstrong, played Blake on Queer as Folk (US) btw.
    • I hadn't thought of this and this is a great call out!
    • Imagine the possibilities if Mary was the politically correct moral center of the Loves and clashed with Donna over her snobby socialite tendencies (once the re-recast was done).
    • Show starts soon. Wonder if we will get the Voice saying "The role of Ted Richardson is now being played by Keith Robinson" and if they'll update the intro
    • I initially thought BTG was going for the Duprees being (somewhat) like the Kennedy family- wealthy and politically influential. And Martin's accident being like how Chappaquiddick (Link) caused Ted Kennedy to cancel his plans to run for president in the 1970s.  (He ran in 1980 but didn't get the nomination). But now it seems to have more layers that that, so I have no idea.
    • The episodes uploaded today by the YT channel have been done through the end of November 1985 and what a mess we have in the Liza/Sunny/Hogan/Lloyd/Estelle story. I think it would have been easier to gradually bring Hogan/Sunny back together.. maybe even addressing the toxic situation and trying to work through it.   Unrelated to all that, I see that Gary Tomlin has attempted to reset the show to where it was when he left at the end of 1983.  He really seems obsessed with regressing Wendy as a character after the progress/evolution of her character post 1983.. with her sleeping with her mother's new boyfriend.   Based on what I've watched of the show online... the one consistency was the mother/daughter relationship between Stephanie/Wendy... and even though Stephanie was recast, I think violating that relationship was a mistake. I can see why Tomlin didn't last long in this stint as head writer.

    • I don't think that would be the reason tbh. Thinking about it, it's probably storyline related - I could see bio mom / dad eventually turning up (or maybe it's June as speculated) and wanting the children back. I could also see it being a part of the fall-out of Martin's secret being revealed now that he's backed down from a presidential campaign - his and Smitty's ability to be parents comes into question, which the bio parents use. They might've wanted the kids to be at a age where they could reliably speak for themselves what they prefer, but also have enough memories of their bio parent(s) not doing a good job. I'd also think that they might want to avoid having the image of this gay couple keeping a mother away from her small children, as it might skew the viewer to sympathise too much in one direction.
