My all favorite lines between Rose and Blanche:

Blanche: Hello, Rose. Is something wrong?

Rose: Well, yes. It's Miles.

Blanche: What about him?

Rose: I don't know. He's been kind of tight lately, and I hate it.

Blanche: Well, I'm just the opposite. I LOVE a tight man..... Tight man with cast iron pecks...

thighs that could choke a bear...a butt you could eat breakfast off of...then the two of us

would.. (stops, looking over at Rose). Rose, when did you get in?

Rose: Blanche, I've been here the whole time. I was telling you about Miles being tight.

Blanche: I LOVE a tight man..... Tight man with cast iron pecks...thighs....

Rose: No, thight with money! He's cheap!

Blanche: Tight with money? DUMP him!

Blanche: This is strictly off the record, but Dirk is nearly five years younger than I am.

Dorothy: In what, Blanche, dog years?

Blanche: I treat my body like a temple.

Sophia: Yeah, open to everyone. Day or night.

Blanche [at Christmas]: Well Rose, it's a beautiful blouse.

Rose: I hope you like it. Dorothy said you would like something crotchless.

Blanche: I feel like I am in a bad dream. But I know I'm not dreaming, because there are no boy dancers.

Blanche: I tried giving up sex.

Dorothy: I guess you fell off the wagon.

Sophia: And on to a naval base!

This is hands down one of my favorite shows ever. The quotes are hilarious!

I'm so glad the first six seasons are all on DVD. I love popping them in when nothing is on and just laughing. I've seen them all about 100 times but they are all very re-watchable.

When the girls thought Blanche may have slept w/ Charlie....

Dorothy: What do you know, the tramp keeps records.

Rose: Wait a minute, if you didn't sleep w/ any of them, how come it says BED on the cover?

Blanche: Honey it doesn't say bed.

Rose: Yes, it does, right there.

Blanche: No those are my initials. Blanche Elizabeth Devereaux.

Dorothy: Your initials spell BED?

I love the episode when they adopt that pig, Baby, to get all that money from Rose's uncle. And then he gets sick, and they send him to a farm...and he dies on the trip to the farm.

Sophia [she lost her glasses and can't see]: Oh, my God. That's the cutest baby I've ever seen.

Dorothy: Ma, it's a pig!

Sophia: Hey, you were not great looking when I brought you home from the hospital.

Rose [to Baby the pig]: There you are; you get into that kitchen and eat your slop before I spank that little pig fanny!

Sophia: All right, I'm going, I'm going... Oh sorry. That's the way they used to call us for dinner in the home.

[blanche complains to the other Girls that Baby has ripped up her nightie]

Blanche: And he likes to watch me take a shower!

Sophia: He's a pig, there's no accounting for taste.

Veterinarian: There's really nothing wrong with Baby, physically.

Rose: He's got a mental problem.

Dorothy: Four grown women decide to live with a pig, and HE'S the one with the mental problem?!

I haven't gotten Season 6 yet, because I know I'll be getting it for Christmas. It's just my favorite sitcom ever.

Hard to believe that Season 7, the FINAL season, will be out in February. On one hand, it seems like the show ended too soon. But on the other hand, it's amazing to me that the show stayed FRESH for seven seasons. Even all the way up to the final episode of the entire series, this show stayed just as fresh and hilariously funny and original as it was in season one. For that, I'm almost glad that the show didn't last any longer... that way, all we're left with is fresh, original, funny material before everyone got burnt out and the show started to inevitably go downhill. There's nothing better than going out at the top of your game, and that's exactly what The Golden Girls did. Always leaves me wanting more, and that's a great thing.

    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!

    • Thanks. I do wonder if Rose was meant to be more given the caliber of actress they hired. I remembered Sara and Peggy staying longer as they were still on when Soapnet started their repeats. I wonder if that was part of the reason they brought Jake's brother in.
    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
    • The speculation……….very entertaining.
    • I had forgotten that several Days stars came out strong against Melissa. Good for them!
