Andre taking photos of Derek for his firefighting rescue story in the newspaper.  He wants Derek to look like a charming firefighter of the month calendar boy.  Andre looks frustrated that Derek looks dull. 
That's supposed to be a plotpoint that Derek looks dull, but Derek always looks dull!

It’s the writing. It’s the characters. It’s the actors.  

Ashley and Derek are just momentum killers and the show seriously needs to reevaluate their place on this canvas, IMO.
