Yeah, as others are posting, I’m not sure if Eva is anybody’s daughter on this show. Except maybe that rando character who said she never got married and had kids.

Mona?  Hmmm. Maybe.

I reeeeeeealy want to know the truth about how Alan died now.

I'd also like to know if they'll expand on Leslie's line about her theater days. I wonder if we'll see more costumes and wigs down the line

Maybe it's better for me to not post and just watch because the episode didn't do it for me.

I always like reading people's differing thoughts. What didn't you like about it ?

Martin isn’t the best actor, for sure. But I’m loving Smitty more and more. AND we’ve now had 2 kisses. Breaking the ice gently for those who might not like seeing such things.

I think the actor who plays Martin is fine and is fine as well. 😅

I also think those two have some spark.

This to me is exactly what MVJ is writing. Martin so concerned, as the Duprees are, with how things look, so of course he wants this to be a picture perfect heteronormative couple, but that is a problem, why? Because the Mike Manning character wants more & why wouldn't he? He would. And, we want that for him.

I would add one very important word, dissatisfied 1950s housewife. If this were what he wants, it would be different, but it's not, it’s just not.

(I'm sorry but I really hate his character name.)

Yup. Did you see today when Martin basically... behind Smitty's back... tried to ruin his career opportunity? That was sooo vile.

No soap opera is perfect, but BTG makes all the other current soaps look like they are written for 13 year-olds.  And the writers on BTG don't talk down to their audience.  I finally feel like I'm watching a soap opera written for adults.  Thank you MVJ!!

Ding, ding, ding! This is smartly written, and it's clear CBS, CBS Studios, NAACP, Procter & Gamble Studios, Sheila Ducksworth, and company believe in Michele Val Jean and her team to make the creative decisions necessary for this soap to proceed, and it's refreshing, because I don't feel like from the other four American daytime soaps. Beyond the Gates reminds me of the days of watching soaps as a child with my mother during the summer months.

AMEN! I second this. Thank you MVJ. Thank you for giving us something new, something fresh... thank you for gracing us with Silkpress Sheila... trashy Hayley... and even... Dani. 🤣

MVJ is making some rookie head writer mistakes. I'm not getting the sense that she's a natural as head writer.  I could name several areas but my overall impression has to do with what happens when I'm watching: creative ideas pop into my head that I'm not seeing on the screen which often means I'm uninspired by what I'm seeing and/or it's lacking something additional or compelling.

The good:
(Side note: They need more tantalizing beefcake in each show. We needed Smitty in a muscle tank top, not LLB long sleeve, Ward Cleaver, pajamas. We needed Derek shirtless in that hospital bed.  Where are the queer directors and producers on set!)

I completely agree. While the show is not horrible I don't think all the storylines were thought out for long-term storytelling. I felt the same way about the family tree, and am happy to see a few others starting to see what a clocked in week one. On a positive note, it is only week 3 and MVJ has plenty of time to change the set up.

High five for more gay crew members. Hate to say it, but I think this will become common on the show. Outside of maybe a handful of shirtless scenes throughout the summer.

It wasn't a bad episode I just did not feel the excitement as everyone else did regarding Leslie's shenanigans. It lacked mystery and intrigue for me. I am pretty old school I guess, I love those build-up scenes of the villain getting dressed before they make their entrance. I am not anticipating the interactions as I would have. Hope that makes sense lol.

I'm old school as well. I'd be perfectly fine with Bill Bell storytelling but I get they have to keep up  with today's audiences and their short attention spans.
