Please, for anyone who might be even a little bit disappointed in the first episode, remember it's day one, episode one. Exposition is necessary when establishing a new series, particularly with its first episode. In primetime, this is called a pilot. I URGE everyone who might be skeptical to at least give the show all five days before passing judgment or critique, both good and bad.

For me, watching all the episodes as a binge/marathon had me thoroughly invested and waiting for what's next. If that's something you think might work for you, I highly suggest that method as well. Either way, don't call it a failure or trash it based on one episode.

To be clear, I'm not saying the episode itself is bad. I'm just saying before you judge it give it a chance beyond episodes one, two, or even three.

I would hope that anyone posting here would know this already (key word being hope). It’s always been my understanding that, in soap world, the whole first week is considered the “pilot,” and the only fair review comes after Friday.

This really is a momentous occasion bc I dusted off my very temperamental tabletop antenna so that I can not only watch this but watch it like it’s supposed to be watched, proper frame rate and all. It’ll be P+ from here on out, but for the premiere? Videotape, baby.

Let's all remember this thread is for our reactions to the show and not "here's what some random troll said on YouTube, much to consider in these deep meaningful thoughts!" Just getting that in before showtime.

Vivica A. Fox’s CarSheild commercial with Ice-T just showed on my CBS affiliate during B&B, lol.  Fitting, in a way, since Vivica is responsible for introducing Sheila Ducksworth and Michele Val Jean. Ice-T being Tamara Tunie’s SUV co-star as well!

    • Lol.  I love that this board still allows misinformation from a bad source.
    • Thanks @kalbir what a time to have enjoyed the peak of the primetime soaps. Haha you’re good. The only complaint I have with Lorraine’s death as I mentioned recently in the FC thread was it was overkill, and all we got Apollonia. If a pregnant woman had to be killed off, I would’ve chosen just killing off Robin instead in some freak accident or in the explosion at Richard’s to save us from us that disaster lol.    Did Hotel have a cliffhanger that year? I imagine if Hotel had been soapier we would’ve had cliffhangers like the hotel catching on fire or bombed by an ex-lover of Christine. Peter pisses everyone off and is shot in his office. Or a major Golden age star like a Olivia de Havilland shows and tells how she originally owned the Hotel and how Victoria Cabot & Laura Trent stole it from her but now she owns it etc.
    • The whole AMC 2.0 pulled it together in mere weeks to get a show up and running, with scripts and a cast.

Ginger Smith seemed really passionate about being in the executive producer position, and I think she really did a fantastic job in six weeks. It was just well done.
    • I totally didn’t pick up on that. Just perfect! I don’t get the Maurice Johnson hate around here at all. He didn’t take me out of the scenes at all. I understood everything he was portraying. It was great. I do wonder if there will be a personality shift with the new actor, whom I’m still not excited about. Exactly. Right? I’m in the exact same boat as you. Agree with most of this except I never found anything off with Ted, didn’t suspect a thing. I just watched yesterday’s episode and it was one of the best soap episodes I’ve seen in a very long time. I was enthralled the entire time. Just fantastic.
    • Yep! Very curious to see where this goes.
    • I was confused too, but I think it was always a "tribute thread" (this one and OLTL's were created when their cancellations were announced). They just changed the show abbreviations to their titles spelled out, I guess to make the board just a little bit more uniform. I was lost, too lol
    • Well... I am. I think she's losing her initial menacing presence. Slowly but surely. I need the crazy dialed back. But as I said... this is very miniscule negative reaction. I am loving the show right now. We'll see how they'll continue after the fireworks.
    • Oh, I am so looking forward to the reveal about Laura's accident, and Nicole and Leslie having a real one on one.
