DAYS: February 2025 Discussion Thread

Today made Alex seem like a wuss.  It makes no sense that he wouldn't just tell Joy that he wants to be with Stephanie.  I get drawing things out, but he has no motivation to try to keep Joy happy.  I mean, he told her that he doesn't want a commitment, they just got together three minutes ago, and she wants to go to LA.  So, let her go, and move on.  Also, Justin living part-time in Salem hardly seems like a reason not to continue with the soap opera.

Once again, we have to remind the writers that this is a university-based hospital (after all, it is in the name). UCLA receives over $1 billion in external research grants annually, less than 10% of their income comes from direct care. The writing team seems to have no idea how different types of hospitals work, and once again, they seem incapable of googling it.

To me, the highlight of the day is the exit of Hattie.  That was an embarrassing portrayal. An evil twin shouldn't only be indicated by her poor taste in accessories.

The hospital stuff is so bad. Yesterday I couldn't help but watch the two lonely extras (a doctor and a nurse) move behind the desk while Brady and Steve called Tripp. None of it resembled anything like a real hospital.

They walked around aimlessly, and I LOL at how many times one of them reached for a file folder -- not a computer in sight. Oh...let me take that back. At the rear of the set, it looked like someone shoved a computer monitor up against the wall. The screen was flat against that wall, as if a broken monitor was pushed out of the way.

I know times are tough, but It was so depressing to see the urgent meeting for Body and Soul take place at the hospital. But at least that forced mess is finally dead and I'm happy to be rid of Hattie, hopefully once and for all. Goodbye to Seth, too. I hope the new writers break up Justin and Bonnie and she is never heard from again either, but I do adore Judi Evans who always gives her all, today being no exception.

We could surmise that Alex will be back at Titan shortly, and Leo probably back at The Spectator (poor Chad!), but I wonder what this means for Doug and his money troubles.

The most ecstatic for Kate and Abe being free! She has been just as great as ever when involved with Philip and anything but the bs that is B&S.

But is this the worst Carlivati had to offer? How much damage did he do in his last two months? I'm intrigued, yet terrified, but I'm staying tuned regardless.

Oh, Hattie was jettisoned off with Body & Soul? Thank God. I tend to catch up on the weekends but good to know because that was one of the things I hoped for. Too bad she couldn't take Leo with her.

“The Salem reboot is dead”

What a beautiful phrase

Johnny and Chanel were sweet today but I wish that there was still some good conflict between them. There were so many story opportunities for them, as we were reminded of today, and every single one was rushed and basically forgotten about. And like I said in the spoiler thread, I really hope they don’t do to Chanel what I fear they’re going to do.

Tate was unintentionally messy but I liked the dilemma that he was in. Admittedly, it made him look a little pathetic but again, he’s a teen. He’s supposed to messy lol I still like him but I’m kinda hoping that either Holly or Sophia rip him a new one at some point in the future. Johnny and Chanel counseling him was nice though and so was Doug III counseling Holly. Days really needs to push this quad or a Tate/Doug III rivalry because it could be really good. I wonder where Doug III is gonna end up working now. And now that the soap crap is over, can we get Leo away from him? Please

Too soon to make any judgments about nuSophia though.

Clearly, Joy was supposed to be the bad guy in today’s episode and clearly it didn’t work. I was totally on her side today. Her ripping Alex was great. This was the most spark that she’s had in a long time. And yeah, Alex’s scenes with Stephanie made him look a selfish POS. I really hope we don’t get another one of those cruel, nasty ass humiliation storylines that Ron loves to do. He did it to the mother now he’s gonna do it to the daughter?

And yeah, Seth Burns is a clown. And the hospital suddenly going bankrupt sounds stupid. Kayla definitely should’ve known about it by now. Hopefully, it’ll lead into something good for everyone involved.

The old series would've titled that episode "The Traitor," opening it with a montage (set to ragtime) of famous traitors, such as Benedict Arnold.

I tend to agree because she was not by his side during the whole Theresa engagement/inheritance drama, and he wasn't there during Bob/ette, there's little to inform them as an “end game couple”.  And he shares a lot of qualities with Joy, which make them feel well suited for each other.

As for Johnny and Chanel, let's try to make it through a year without cheating on each other, getting exposed to radiation, or possessed by the devil before having kids.  I mean, who is giving a baby to the couple who just reconciled yesterday, after they both lost their jobs?

PS, I still think Seth is kind of funny.

Somebody needs to point out that Stephanie is an unrepentant man stealer.

That whole scene where she and Alex were absolving themselves of any guilt about Joy, because the ends justifies the means, was ethically nuts.

Stephanie knows Joy has been going through it, and just because every dude in Salem falls immediately head over heels for Stephanie does not justify her lack of compassion.

    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
