I never had any connection to Jason or Sonny, or this Carly, but I feel the same way when I see glimpses of Felicia, Kevin (even if the character seems drained of any of his old humor or personality) or Lucy. I don't watch enough to feel much of anything but there are some new characters I like, such as Cody or Sasha, but I'm never going to invest...and I guess we aren't meant to. They broke the bank to bring back Jason and they don't even care about him - they shipped off one of his sons as soon as they could.

Soaps in the last decade or two have become overly obsessed with dredging up their past in the wrong, extremely convoluted ways. It just makes them feel incestuous and spent.

I agree. It’s like a snake eating its own tail. And the same thing has broken superhero comics from Marvel and DC. The constant navel gazing.

We are now two generations of American kids that don’t read those comics but still support the genre by reading manga. Much like continuing drama is pretty much all of the rest of television, and superhero movies are still a juggernaut. But the source material has died on the vine. The audience is out there, and fandom has such a stranglehold on soaps and those comics that they won’t let them evolve.

As shown with the hostile reaction the show had to Sprina, GH seemed to even react very negatively to a potential new audience, especially if that audience isn't the one who makes them feel comfortable. I suppose it is easier for them to just wind down the clock - I don't know if any of the people running daytime soaps now believed they would still be around (I'll admit that around 2011 or so I thought only the Bell soaps might be on in 2024) and that sense of fear and confusion is very pervasive. It's like the characters stumbling through a zombie movie.

LOL!

Same.

The only thing Babe was good for was Bianca slapping her when she realized Babe took her baby. I disliked Babe so much.

But all I see Lulu here and as it has been on my wishlist all year...I'm enjoying it. Moreso because ABH is GIVING.

Same. As much as I love legacy characters and even characters tied to legacy characters (if the writing is good and doesn't mess with the timeline), soap towns do need characters not tied to anyone so it does not get incestuous. Just give us good writing for the newbie and the actor's ability to connect...and the audience will fall for them.
