GH: September 2024 Discussion Thread

I believe they are now 6-8 weeks out where last year it wasn't that long. And, yes, they shoot way the hell out of order, far worse than movies do & their support people say they live & die by their continuity people, who they claim are the absolute best in the business. They also cannot afford to pay qualified people for their support positions, so everyone there was hired green &  has been trained by someone else there. (Unless the person who gave them their OJT has since retired.) Honestly, to me it seems brutal.

Per Adam J Harrington's interview with Michael Fairman

Harrington was on contract but it was always known to be short-term

Harrington finished filming right before GH took the month of July off

AH had around 70 scenes to film that day that came from 11-15 episodes.

AH said he wondered what would happen to Jagger's son, Stone with him now dead.

At the risk of sounding heartless I don't really care what happens to Jagger's son Stone.  I hope he lives his best life and it sucks his dad got killed by Sonny, but I don't need an update on him.

We have so many characters currently clogging up the show.  I don't need extra time spent on a child Jagger had with a random women.  We met Stone for a few episodes on Nightshift 2 as a child and never heard about him again.  I have 0 investment in him lol.

And now that I said that Jagger's baby mom (played by Gina Tognoni) and AdultStone will immediately be cast tomorrow.

Well...coming into September proper...

That was an entertaining mess. The Search for Lucky and WaggervSonny were solid A stories. So it jarring as heck to have Drew/Willow fighting with those two stories for frontburner. And dare I say it...I really didn't care. lol. Oh, how the mighty (in my eyes) have fallen.

Any story that has Laura front and center is fine by me. That said...I was expecting her to send Jason honestly to go get Lucky. I guess because he is kinda just there in the wind. lol. But I'm down for her and Kevin have another mini-adventure to go find him. And it's Laura's son so I'm already invested. I am starting to wonder about Lucky's fine doctor friend though. Is it wrong that I am wondering if he's connected to anyone in town? Rhetoric of course.

So...they really threw Wagger all the way under the Sonny bus, huh? Cuz lorrrrrd...smh. I liked that the New/Old Writers finally picked a lane and stuck with it. But we have already seen this allllll before. That said...the actor rose to the occasion. And I will always LOVE Mama Bear Alexis. The only thing that bugged me was that Ava was back being in that really annoying meh mode when she was scheming like a chess player months ago. And is it wrong that I totally forgot Dante and Sonny fell out?

And speaking of questions...is it also wrong that I keep feeling like Val or Finn are going to pop up on my screen like a jump scare?

Meanwhile...so I guess the New/Old Writers are totally over this politician storyline if they killed off the guy. I mean there could have been more organic ways for Drew/Willow to kiss. So I guess another plot thread done by PM to the wayside. The hatred is real.

Yeeeeeeah, I see me being over Kristina. I wish I could say that it was out of character, but if I was to be fair...this would be something that I feel Lexi's Kristina would do, too, and lord knows I used to want to shake her bitd so it tracks for me. And at this point, I want her to say her baby name one more time around Molly so Molly can really go in again. Perhaps we are heading to a crazy Kristina outcome. I know she SHOULDN'T be running around with a gun.

I feel they are doing a good job of weaving Brennan into the tapestry of this new regime. His banter with Carly. Getting close to Jason and Laura. Still annoyed at the slapstick they are trying with him and Anna (but I am disliking how she's written under these New/Old Writers), but he does fill out that suit. And good to know he still has a bubble thank you cameramen.

I was very happy the Heather storyline has been reduced to a C story. And how inspired to have Ric be her lawyer to keep him in town. But poor Portia reduced to this part of the canvas. And where is Scotty? And with all the recurring characters back, is Dr. O coming back?

So I take that since the New/Old Writers are bringing up Dante/BLQ again that this will be our pivot away from Sam. Or the start of it?

These rain scenes are very well-done.

Just a mess. Entertaining, but a mess.

Well, that one way to get her on the show.

    • It really made Oscar the Doorman seem like an imbecile.   I think the show's unusual format & subject manner is what makes EON often seem less "dated" and "old-fashioned" than other shows from that time period.  It never attempted to be especially "trendy" or "modern" -- and its film noir style is pretty timeless.
    • Dallas, Dynasty, Knots and Falcon Crest all had good runs but by 85 they had seen better days. I think they were a victim of the format. After several seasons seeing the same characters front and center viewers were bored. What was once fascinating grew predictable. JR, Alexis etc had to be front and center and after a while their schemes and shtick grew repetitive. JR remarrying Sue Ellen, Alexis constantly trying to get he better of Blake etc Unlike daytime, there wasn't the flexibility to bring in other stories and characters and maybe let the likes JR go backburner. That same mentality also invaded daytime with characters like  Sonny and Victor still peddling the same stuff after decades. I guess the same could be said for MSW eg every week Jessica encounters a crime and solves it,but I think viewers come to that format with a different mindset.
    • Daphnee and Trisha did a live stream on Instagram and confirmed they find out if the show gets picked up in May. This pretty much confirms they're on the primetime schedule like the Bell soaps. Fingers crossed we get a multi-year renewal announcement soon!  https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJSsYb7PDv8/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
    • I don't think Lois the character was there.  The Lois we knew from the 90s has pretty much died with this  Gio story crap.
    • Have to agree re MM. The goody two shoes character and writing doesn't help but maybe a more dynamic actor would help Brandon lift his game also. I found the song sequence a little OTT. First of all it should have been shorter and maybe the song fades out and just some music to accompany the montage. I think it would have worked better if Anita had have been alone after everyone left and started tinkling leading into the song, with Vernon coming in observing and then joining her for  a close moment. Everyone standing around felt a little too much. And that closing effect with the two blackscreens meeting was unnecessary. Just a fade out would have been enough.

    • And sadly I think that’s the trivia Both Jeanne Cooper and Eric Braeden went with for years and years. Lol
    • But people were hating so bad on amc and the final year and the ratings sucked. Business wise they made the right call. Oltl who even gained some ratings back and weren’t they higher as GH at one point is a decision and never understood.
    • Ann Williams was the first Maggie Powers on The Doctors but left to have a baby. Maggie was successfully recast so Ann picked up the role of Eunice (Jo's sister on Search for Tomorrow) and played that role for 10 years before being killed of in 1976. That led to her role of Margo on EON.
    • Looking at those totals it seems most contract actors are on a 1 or 2 week average guarantee. I assume contracts are still operating on 13 week cycles so you would have to know the particular actors contract starting date to work out their guarantee. The question remains as to what actors listed as contract are actually recurring? Bryton ?
