Looking at KMs bio on the Soap Hoppers thread I'm not seeing a resume that says serious actress. She pretty much went straight into soaps and stayed there.  Good luck to her and hopefully she invested wisely as there doesn't seem much out there for her.

Maybe Return to Playboy - A New Beginning.

Killing her off seems a bit vindictive, but the character has been useless and the actress lifeless for over 2 decades. The only spark she had was her brief turn as a villain back in 2007 or so.

Her current story with Dante feels like a repeat of the story she had with Patrick a decade ago. If her character is not paired with one of the Jasons, she's paired with a character who will certainly dump her for his true love once his true love comes back from near death. Her character has always been a placeholder.

Posting Dirty Soap episodes in this thread is already totally OT, but multiple posters have complained before about links being posted to the reprehensible right-wing Rumble site on this board. Please stop. If you have to send these links to people do it privately.

The writing has been on the wall for "Agent Cates" from the get-go.

A simple solution to Dex and Joss...  Dex is jogging shirtless in the park  A day-player couple are arguing. He thinks he should save the wife because it's domestic and she kills him trying to save her husband. Unlikable Joss goes to see her father in Australia. Two episodes and out. Dayplayer couple arrested by Chase. Rest Joss a year or more and hire an Emma  Scorpio-Drake or Lila Rae. Gio gets a job on Broadway...  Easy Peasy exits. Re-cast Spencer or Cameron and for the love of God-- use Trina as something besides a sidekick...

I don't need Mac to lose his son now that he's found him. It doesn't hurt that even though Cody's throughline of story has literally been all over the place, his chemistry with the Scorpio family and Tracy, Sasha is the actor's saving grace to avoid the boot.

It is symbolic that they used Hartley when they had emotional scenes for Sam to play, though, isn't it?

I was much more enthused about Drew and Nina (and the Willow factor) when Mulcahey was here. Unless they continue to really lean into Drew Q the smarmy power player and cad and make the couple or triangle what it could be, I'd probably write them out together after a certain interval - 6 months, a year. If it's a budget issue though I'd cut them immediately. Dex can go at any time. Sasha must vanish. Natalia (if she's on a contract), of course. Wagger, gone. Same with Michael and Willow, possibly after a blowup over Drew and their subsequent divorce. Michael would be back recast in a year or two; Willow would not.

Joss I would leave where she is - maybe she returns after a brief absence following either Dex's death or a breakup - and move into a secondary and more comic spoiled role for now. I'd probably recast with someone stronger down the road, but I think Eden has a certain raw facility and register she can work in. It's just not what they have her doing.

Gio I would give a shot with an actual story and character, none of which he currently has. But if nothing works, bye.

Cody is fine by me and stay the mischievous but sweet stable himbo. No notes.

I'd also quickly cut Curtis, T.J. and Molly, Jordan and Chase. Bring on better characters who aren't played out. Chase would probably die, or he and BLQ would leave for a brief period - six months, maybe - and again only BLQ would return (recast if necessary).

Why do we think that social media speculators see Kelly Monaco's firing as the first sign of the apocalypse for GH's cancellation, versus other recent actors who were let go?

Is it her tenure?

Because this feels much more HR-related than a sign of overall budget cutting.

Her mother and Billy Miller’s mom have been adding fuel to the fire that she was targeted by Frank unfairly.

As I read more posts attacking other actors,  I am less sympathetic to their cause when it comes to many of her fans. I have seen multiple posts claiming that Jonathan Jackson was offered some fat contract like he had in the JFP days. That Finola wasn’t asked to take a pay cut, and that’s not fair to Kelly somehow. That Laura Wright should be fired first. I am as sick of Carly as can be, but LW never looks bored or phones it in. That Maura  was spared so KM had to go. That cutting all the recurring characters is the same on their budget as Kelly, or people like Gio. That Steve Burton still has the influence he had in the 2000’s and could save her job. Tagging actors in posts like this. WTH is wrong with people.

Soaps have such a small fanbase considered to other celebrities, that it’s almost impossible to avoid stuff like this online. I feel for them, they are not in control of the shows.

Kelly was in the top earners. This seems sudden enough to be budget, but also possibly more than that and the opportunity presented itself. i think it sucks to be fired, and if Michael Easton and Roger Howarth had not also been fired within this season I would be much more upset for her than I am.

    • I still continue to think that Dani is written like she's been in a soap opera for 20 seasons and she's come to a point where she's completely spent storyline wise. It's a vibe I'm getting. Characterization wise... It's like she is either incredibly stupid... or just plain delusional and out of touch with reality. I choose to pick the second option. Also... to me... she has not been entertaining for months now. Ever since they decided to jump straight to... she's an alcoholic... which we didn't need at this point... the character has struggled. Her initial Ex-wife-from-hell bravado was more interesting, even though cliche.  I expect her to improve in the coming months... they used her as a clown type of character to draw in views. Now I need to see the human being. If there is one, behind the soap opera caricature.
    • A full 1973 episode that looks fantastic in color.
    • It 's obviously cheaper to go the true crime route. Having different reporters and production teams covering a variety of topics costs more. The networks are delivering budget programming these days.
    • Maybe because 60 Minutes has kept the same formula for almost 57 years? Usually, there is more than one interview/topic discussed, like a real magazine. Dateline, 20/20, and so many others have all fallen to the one-subject formula: True crime. I mean, I'm a Forensic Files junkie and loved original America's Most Wanted back in the day, but even I think the TV market has been over-saturated with all crime, all the time. There was still that element when these shows began, but they were a segment of an episode, not the entire episode. Maybe the audience is just getting bored with such a fixed formula. If stories were intermixed with crime, some feel-good segment, and maybe something to do with lifestyle/music/and yes, as much as I have come to hate it, political issues, maybe these shows could rally. As they are - again, minus 60 Minutes - they have become tired and predictable.
    • Interesting tidbit- Robert Newman (Josh) dated Jennifer Cooke (Morgan) when they first started on Guidling Light (it was reported in the press and I think they talked about it in interviews). I did see (as a young kid) Rita having a flashback about Roger's rape of her --and it was confusing as a kid because she was on the floor leaning against her bed and she looked like she was seduced by force and her dress was in disarray, her hair was mussed, make up was a bit messy, but she looked at him with fear, disgust and confusion but the camera was in soft focus (so I get why people may say it was romanticized)--and I remember asking what happened to her and told well she is having nightmares/flashbacks of Roger not being nice to her
    •   Like I said I wasn’t talking about characterization. It makes sense that Dani is in denial. However literally no one in the real world would accuse someone of faking a pregnancy. Why? Because it’s just not feasible. What is Dani supposed to expect from Hayley—that she’ll be hiding a pillow under her shirt 24/7? Come on. The accusation has no legs, and that’s exactly why nobody would ever go there. A far more plausible accusation—one that actually has been made for centuries—is that someone might lie about who the father is. Dani only vaguely hinted at that, but at least that angle would make some narrative sense. I’d go for a coworking space that would be home to these small businesses like Kat and Chelsea’s bag startup (the whole police station trope feels like copaganda to me)
    • I guess RTPP looked worse because it followed Another World, but it's a shame they didn't give it more time especially considering how the shows that were put on following it fared.
