Members soapfan770
We didn’t have Sisters thread from what I could dig up (or if we did it may be archived) but since it’s running on the Primetime Soaps channel at the moment I figured to start one up as it’s been forever since I rewatched the series. I have DVD’s but they’re buried in storage at the moment. Anyways I forgot how much of a good mix of humor and drama went into the first season between Wade & Alex’s marriage dissolving, Teddy’s phone sex job and relationships, and finding out their father wasn’t as faithful as they believed. I’ll add what the show’s entry in the 2007 edition of the Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV says shortly here. Members janea4old
omg, Sisters was one of my favorite shows. Sela Ward was luminous, dynamic, amazing. You mentioned a Primetime Soaps channel? Where do I find that?

Members soapfan770
Sela has been the highlight of the show so far, followed so closely by Kurtz and Kalember. Hopefully you can catch some this week! This is another show that should’ve been streaming or on demand a long time ago since the complete DVD series is out there. It may not be well remembered as the Fox Soaps at the time but it was definitely a Saturday night favorite of mine. Another soapy fix for the week.
Members Vee
I've always heard so much about this. I might check it out.
Members DRW50
I loved the first 3 or 4 seasons of Sisters. Unfortunately, the show just became so unremittingly dark after that point and chose to completely destroy the marriage and family life of John and Georgie that was the core of the show. My last straw was the false memory sexual abuse storyline that seemed to be done in part so that Patricia Kalember could work with her real life husband. I only returned to watch the finale, which wasn't exactly fantastic, but did manage to close the show on a decent note.
Members Contessa Donatella
I totally & completely loved this show - except it turned on us at the end.
Members Khan
You should! Granted, there are moments when the writing, direction and acting are too whimsical for their own good, but the chemistry among Patricia Kalember, Swoosie Kurtz, Sela Ward, Julianne Phillips and Elizabeth Hoffman is phenomenal; and the interludes between the characters and their younger selves lends a nice, theatrical quality to the series overall.

Members Contessa Donatella
Hmm Perhaps he was on a different primetime soap. Great looking "Diet Coke guy". I have to figure this out. Okay, sorry, my mistake. He was on Pacific Palisades & about a dozen other things but that is the role I was confusing with a role on SISTERS. Members Soaplovers
Last night, I watched their Halloween episode that aired 'Lost Souls' and I loved that there was such a supernatural presence in all three of the main stories. Usually a show will do a Halloween episode as a gimmick, but this episode used those elements to continue developing the characters. 1st main story: Alex feeling guilt over the death of the homeless person and being literally haunted by him. I liked that this also served as an excellent showcase for how different Alex/Reed were as mother and daughter. Even the ending when Alex does provide the tombstone with his name, Reed was such a realist that she kind of dismissed it. 2nd main story: Frankie/Mitch spending the night in the haunted house. This served to continue developing Frankie's character with her constantly fearing not being perfect stemming from childhood. She was afraid that she would fail as a mom, wife, housekeeper, etc.. and it did show that of the four of them.. she was the one that thought the family was too enmeshed in her life (and it does foreshadow her eventually moving to Japan and then later coming back as an 'outsider'). I loved the warmth between her and the ghost.. plus the ghost of her former teacher. 3rd main story: The least supernatural.. but served to develop Simon's character. I think that the show always was a bit offbeat and whimsical, but there were some real intense scenes and situations that balanced out the offbeat and whimsical. I would say this was a family primetime soap opera, but done in a very 90s offbeat sort of way.
Members soapfan770
I thought about tagging you after the fact of starting this discussion thread actually @DRW50 I too hated how Georgie was completely put through the wringer with her being manipulated into an affair with her psycho psychiatrist, which was a strange story to begin with John & Georgie had been through so much already after the Trevor going off the rails that story was cruel and unnecessary. I was glad the finale at least had them reunite and Georgie on good terms with Trevor. I also was never a fan of George Clooney’s Falconer character or the fact the show dropped Mitch as a character but that’s a different story. Oh definitely there is a lot of Northern Exposure and Picket Fences quirkiness running throughout the earlier seasons of the show, which makes it fun in addition to the heavy soapy drama. I just watch watched the episode where Alex goes on local Chicago talk show about her breast cancer experience and is told by the host to make fun of it to keep the show light hearted only for said host to die of a heart attack laughing to a reluctant Alex’s cancer jokes she made up. The whole sequence was a darkly humorous moment filled with irony complete in synch with something like Picket Fences. Yes I agree @Vee needs too!! Please register in order to view this content I also forgot how much I loved the original opening credits of the first couple seasons when the four sisters are in the sauna together. IMO that should have stayed the opening credits
