Me, I was pleased with the climax of Pikeman. Stakes were definitely present. The acting was excellent, Anna, Jason, Valentin, ... There was considerable edge of your seat moments. We got closure on why it was thought by Cates that Anna was Pikeman Head. (Because Valentin set her up as a red herring.) Seeing Jason, so excited & so close to the end of his quest, was rewarding. Anna's reflection on what she'd done to Robin in the past & would not now do to Robin, Emma & Noah. I mean, I am glad that we have done this thing & I believe it afforded a good midpoint to July sweeps.

Yes, we do react quickly here. I am just upset to see Anna cry about Valentin. As always, he is as menacing as a noodle. And we got another breakup for him. I do appreciate Anna putting the pieces together that he was using her to cover his tracks. At least they addressed that.

There is a deep bench when it comes to talented women on this show. Like an embarrassment of actual talent that should be utilized daily. Right now I don’t think any of the other soaps have this many women on contract that are actual powerhouses. I’m not saying the talent isn’t there too, it’s just GH is stacked with women 40+ that are still doing vibrant work under the circumstances. Maybe I’m wrong, I am sure others will point it out. That does make me happy as a viewer, because back in the good old days those characters would be shuffled off.

Natch. I was a huge fan of CarJack! Carly Tenney Snyder was a force to be reckoned with, as the saying goes.

But, Ava! To me, Ava is the role Maura was born to play. In Oakdale, I could see Maura there lurking in the shadows. But, with Ava, it is seamless. I cannot see Maura pulling the puppet strings. I am completely & wholly in thrall that Ava Jerome is a real person!!! As far as I am concerned, good writing or poor, this is drama at its finest.

If this is the end of Pikeman, where was the reveal about Roger Howarth’s character? Didn’t someone from the show (Korte maybe) say that was going to be part of this story too? I feel like in the early days of Jason’s return we kept hearing about this great umbrella story that was so much better than what the last HW’s wrote- that it tied Jason to Pikeman and Austin’s death as well. Another dropped thread for the last year.

When Austin was murdered, I thought that Nikolas did it. I then believed that Austin's death would be tied to Pikeman, but that hasn't happened. If Valentin didn't kill Austin, then I guess Nikolas did do it.

Austin's murder may wind up being a little like Nikolas's attempt to kill Hayden.  It was dropped for years, Nikolas never had to answer for what he did, and Shawn was put away in prison.  Many years later, Shawn was released from prison and people close to Nikolas, like Spencer, knew what he had done.  Elizabeth, Hayden's sister, turning states evidence against Nikolas, admittedly on an unrelated issue, also felt like a degree of vindication.

Obviously, this analogy is imperfect.  We all knew who put out the hit on Hayden, whereas we don't know who killed Austin.  My point is that I could see this story being dropped for some time before suddenly coming up again in a prominent and significant way a few years down the line.

I completely forgot about Austin and his murder.  I honestly don't really care if I get any closure to it lol.  I assume it will be tied to Pikeman as well though.

Ava would have been a good choice, but I think she would be far more concerned about it with the Avery custody issue if she did it.

Frankly, I don't believe there'll ever be closure to Austin's murder, and that's probably because Frank Valentini is still smarting over the fact that he was pressured to cut Roger Howarth loose.

    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.
