CBS and BET have simulcasted the Image Awards so considering that connection I'm wondering if the debut episode will be shown on BET in primetime after it airs on CBS Daytime in order to create more interest. With CBS and BET under the same parent company there is room for cross promotion.

Such a great idea.

Much like its Paramount peer, MTV, BET has become a wasteland for block programming. Though, it does make sense to repurpose BTG there in hopes of attracting more viewers.

BET did air old Generations episode for like a year or two after NBC canceled it. That’s where I first discovered that show - and realized what an uninspired and creatively inept storyteller Sally Sussman Morina really was. Generations could have been so much better in the hands of a better writer. I hope MVJ (who got her first soap gig on Generations) is taking a look at that show and examining what worked and what didn’t.

Hehe. Same. That was how I discovered it. By BET.

I'm sure MVJ did.

It was one of those fairly remarkable things, AT THAT TIME, that BET bought the rights to play GENERATIONS a couple of times, beginning to end.

I am IN LOVE with the new title. "The Gates" really just had that something missing, and simply adding "Beyond the" totally completes it. It's a classic, vintage soap title without sounding too dated. Brilliant. I'm also very thankful the family isn't called Gates because that would have been too much.

I'm not gonna sit here and fawn over Tamara Tunie and Daphnee Duplaix coming back to daytime because everyone has already adequately expressed how exciting it is, but...man. Talk about doing everything right! As it important as it is to highlight black talent on this show, it's also important to highlight those who who've already made careers in daytime. Cornelius Smith, baby, you better be next.

What incredible news about TT.  Am I the only one who liked the name "Betty" for the character, though?  Admittedly, I was probably stuck in a bit of a time loop, forgetting that would have been a more popular nickname a couple of generations before hers.  And don't get me wrong: I like Anita as well, and the implication that MVJ is thinking about the family tree and adjusting names accordingly, as @DramatistDreamer noted.  It makes me think of how the Ryan's Hope bible was rumored to go back generations to Ireland at the turn of the (previous) century.  I also wouldn't have minded the presumably jettisoned "Rosalind" (and possible homage to Cash).

I also thought DD did good work and was a delightful presence on OLTL, even with often (and ultimately) thankless material, so that news makes me really happy as well.

I was admittedly picturing Morgan as "Betty" (at least, once I remembered time - see above), but I think you're right.  Specifically, it might have been difficult for some viewers to accept her playing a main character who's not as nice (I hope) as Angie.  I suspect part of what made it possible for Beverlee McKinsey (aside from being BM, and I'd put Morgan in the same very top tier of daytime actresses) to create a second iconic P&G soap character was that she had played the character who was objectively less sympathetic first.  No AW/GL viewers could have been credibly outraged at Alex doing something that would have been beneath Iris.  (At least, not until MD's Alex was revealed as a drug kingpin or whatever, but by then AW had long since moved the Overton window by leaving Iris to rot in prison as a violent felon.)

I'd still like to see DM in a recurring role or short arc - or even as the matriarch of another core family (is there another?).  Maybe she could play the gay son's mother-in-law, who has a complicated history with Anita?

Yes, I hope the show devotes significant attention to the characters on the other side of the Gates as well.

I really liked the name Betty too, and I was prepared to be calling her this as a character.

I hear you on all of that. I was REALLY angry at NBC and P&G when Another World was canceled. So many of us were, even though we'd been frustrated for years about mistakes made at AW.

NBC was absolutely crazy to think that ratings for PASSIONS would be great with so many ticked off and sad AW viewers out there -- and it didn't help when The AW replacement was a hard 180 away from what we'd seen for decades.

No soap cancellation broke my heart the way Another World's did.

I couldn't agree more! I believe AW was also the first soap to go to an hour. I also watched the spin-offs, but nothing beat the OG.  I still miss it to this day.

Wasn't the AW replacement called "Generations"?  I watched it for a little while because James Reynolds (from Days) was the patriarch of the family. Then before I knew it, that too was cancelled.

Generations should have kicked off with James and Debbi on board, immediately getting attention.

Maybe even Richard Roundtree. The point being that initial casting creates interest and excitement a la BTG.

No.

Generations ran from 1989 until 1991.

Another World was not canceled until 1999 (as was Sunset Beach!). Passions replaced Another World.

AW ended on June 25, 1999. Passions took over that slot on July 5, 1999. (And Sunset Beach ended New Year's Eve (December 31st) 1999.)

I was more thinking about the family surname Dupree and wondering if it signifies some type of Creole heritage.

I might be in the minority, but I'm not loving Beyond the Gates. Seems a bit on the nose, and it's giving Tyler Perry's The Haves and Have Nots energy. The classic rich vs working class family.

Echoing what's already been said, but Tamera Tunie is such a great inclusion to the cast and I mentioned her as someone I would love to see on this project when this was first announced.

As for BET/MTV, not sure if a daily evening airing would work, but maybe they could air an omnibus like the British soaps on weekends and air the 5 episodes back to back. Although with streaming, this may not be necessary altogether.

You are basing this one what exactly? It hasn't even premiered yet..

Confirmation that Jeresa Featherstone is at Beyond the Gates

Obviously I'm not the OP, but perhaps they meant they were not loving "Beyond the Gates" as a title?
