Beyond the Gates: Premiere Date, Time Slot Set by CBS

My hunch is that "Estates" has been dropped since we haven't seen it used since then. I noticed Jen Jacobs use simply "Fairmont" on instagram. It makes make think perhaps Fairmont is the general town, Fairmont Crest is the gated community, and the Fairmont Crest Country Club is the amenity/building at its core.

I also wonder if BTG will continue to have some characters living in DC with others living in the suburbs. I am hoping they all end up living in one town, in classic soapy fashion.

This is AMAZING. It feels like the premiere has been moved up a week. So far I have loved every morsel of backstage footage and information we have gotten from the recent interviews and promos so I will love this.

Incredible news. This is beyond anything I thought CBS would do as part of a promotional push. I don't think we could ask for more. This is an amazing launch.

Also surprising is that Y&R and BOLD haven't seized the moment to do something larger and wilder and more exciting.

The fact that the specials will air for one week in BTG's timeslot is just perfect. It's a much better idea than the primetime movie-of-the-week premieres of the past (Loving, Capitol, PC, etc) because you are grabbing the attention of the audience that is actually viewing that timeslot.

Thank you! It's everything!

I especially appreciate that there is a day or two focused on the show's creative genesis. The more we go back and revisit stuff like classic '90s GH or Generations, the more you realize just how unsung a piece of soap royalty Michele Val Jean often has been. I want to hear much more about her and this process. I wonder how long she's had this show in a drawer.

As for the other CBS soaps, I think @Khan is right that in the end the only thing keeping Y&R propped up anymore - because I can't tell if they actually have any actual long-term storylines at this point - is the cultural/audience power of Victor Newman and Eric Braeden. Which is a lot, in fairness! But it can't last forever. Still, I will believe CBS (or Sony) have any interest in changing anything at the other two soaps when I see it.

You're probably right. Only an amazing start by BTG will get CBS and the other soaps to pay attention and step things up. Even if the first weeks of Gates make us all really happy, we all know how tough it is for a new soap to gain a foothold and have ratings "success."

If BTG isn't a hit from the jump (however you define that), the other soaps can just turn their heads and continue to push their trash because they know we're like addicts who can't quit them.

I would be shocked (and pleased) if it was a barnstorming hit out of the gate. Any soap is going to take time to grab a foothold, if it can get one. This was the case even in the glory days. I hope CBS and P&G are prepared for that window, which I am sure MVJ and co. are aware of. It's another reason I am frankly glad Bob Guza is involved, as he is no stranger to stunting for ratings.
