The bee in my bonnet -- Catlin and Sally's theme in 1984/1985 was this song which was played at their wedding on a portable stereo. Usually they played a very nice instrumental version in romantic scenes but at the wedding it was a version with vocals and lyrics. Per the AWHP the title was "When" but I have not been able to find any other information about it. Who wrote it? Who sang it? Did it have a life outside AW?

One of my favorite soap opera composers was the late Wladimir Selinsky.  He wrote the theme (I think) for the CBS primetime show Our Private World and also my favorite soap opera there, A World Apart.   He also composed (background music, I presume) for Love Is a Many Splendored Thing,

He was born on February 15, 1910 and passed away at the age of 74 in 1984.Wladimir Selinsky | SecondHandSongs

Today, I learned that Ray Martin and Edythe Britton composed the theme song for the ABC serial Never Too Young.

Score Productions provided other (probably background) music.

Mr. Martin also composed the theme for NBC/Bing Crosby Productions' Bright Promise.

@NothinButAttitude posted this helpful info in the Another World thread. It's from Soap Opera Digest and identifies the singers on When as Ullanda McCulloch and Darryl Tookes. It indicates that the song is "not available" which suggests that it was never commercially released. Interestingly, when I look up Darryl Tookes it says that he also sang on the Guiding Light theme, which makes me wonder whether When could have been an in-house P&G piece.

@Contessa Donatella I see you mentioned in the AW thread that the Soap Digest item in the link was mistaken about Bo and Hope's theme, which it lists as "Whatever We Imagine" by James Ingram. The SOD item is from 1989 and based on nostalgia for the way-distant early- to mid-1980s, bless their hearts. I have no idea whether "Whatever We Imagine" might ever have been used for Bo and Hope -- for some reason there do seem to be fan videos on YouTube that have used it, but I didn't find any clips that showed it used in the show. However even if they had another theme it could be possible that "Whatever We Imagine" was used at some point. Maybe a bigger Bo and Hope fan can clarify.

The last time they were both on-screen must have been much more recent than 1989 when the SOD article was published, so that on its own would not be meaningful.

For each of the couples in the listicle they gave only one love theme. In 1989 Bo and Hope would have been offscreen for more than a year. I don't know how SOD chose between multiple songs but it seems like you can make the case that "Whatever We Imagine" was one of their love themes even if they decided not to list multiple songs. I would probably have wanted to base the decision on how frequently they used it and what kind of scene it tended to be matched with. But if after 1989 they used "Whatever We Imagine" less and "Tonight I Celebrate My Love For You" more, SOD could not have predicted that.

I cannot believe what a hard time I had keeping "Tonight I Celebrate My Love For You" in my head while typing that -- my brain kept flipping it to "If Ever You're in My Arms Again."

    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
