ARTICLE: CBS Reschedules ‘The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards’ for Friday, December 15; Susan Lucci To Be Honored

As expected, “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” will now take place on Friday, December 15, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and CBS confirmed today. The rescheduled ceremony will be broadcast LIVE at 9:00 p.m. ET/delayed PT on CBS and will also be available to stream on Paramount+*.

“We are pleased to set this new date with CBS for the Daytime Emmys to celebrate our golden anniversary,” said Adam Sharp, president and CEO of NATAS in a statement. He added, “We know the loyal fans of daytime television have waited patiently to properly honor and recognize all of the deserving nominees and we look forward to the celebration we have all been waiting for.”

Earlier this week, NATAS announced an “exciting weekend” of festivities, noting “four days of celebrations,” but only released information on events taking place over three days. This led to wide speculation that the fourth day, Friday, December 15, was being eyed as a replacement date for the big event. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on Friday, June 16, but was postponed due to the now concluded Writer’s and Actor’s strikes.

During the broadcast, Daytime Emmy Award winner Susan Lucci (“All My Children”) will receive her Lifetime Achievement Honors. Former talk show host Maury Povich will receive his award at the Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle ceremony, taking place the next day on Saturday, December 16 at 12:00 noon PT, and will be available to stream online at watch.TheEmmys.tv. Both events will be held at the historic Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.

Heading into Emmy season, “General Hospital” leads the pack with 19 nominations overall, followed by 14 nominations for “The Bold and the Beautiful,” 13 nominations for “The Young and the Restless” and 10 nominations for “Days of our Lives” (the show originally had 11 noms, now has 10: see story).

This year marks the 17th time CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmy Awards, more than any other network. The December 15 broadcast is being produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI), which produced Daytime Emmy Award ceremonies on The CW in 2009 and on CBS in 2010, 2011, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer from ATI.

Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime. In addition, in recognition of the marked increase in content and entries for children’s programming, 2022 marked the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, with relevant categories separating from the Daytime Emmys into their own competition and ceremony. All awards are judged by a pool of peer professionals from across the television industry.

Speaking of the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, mere hours after the Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle ceremony, on Saturday, December 16, NATAS will present the Children’s & Family Creative Arts ceremony, starting at 8:00 p.m. PT. The main ceremony, “The 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards,” will take place on Sunday, December 17, starting at 5:00 p.m. PT, topping off the “exciting weekend” of festivities. The Westin Bonaventure Hotel will also play venue host for those ceremonies.
