Not a dream, not an imaginary story, folks.

Like sands through the hourglass, another iconic TV title is switching to streaming: NBC’s Days of our Lives will become a Peacock exclusive starting September 12, Vulture has learned. The move will end the show’s 57-year run on broadcast television and also marks the exit of NBC from a genre it pioneered 73 years ago with the launch in 1949 of These Are My Children, widely credited as TV’s first-ever daytime sudser. It comes as two other major broadcast titles — Thursday Night Football and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars — prepare to shift to streaming this fall.

In the case of Days, there has been industry speculation about it jumping to Peacock for some time now. The series, produced by Corday Prods. in association with Sony Pictures Television, has dodged cancellation multiple times over the past 15 years, with Sony and NBC often engaged in very last-minute negotiations to hammer out deals which make financial sense to both parties. Days has been the least-watched of the four remaining network daytime dramas for years now, making it increasingly difficult for NBC execs to justify keeping the show around absent reduced license fees (which Sony has largely been able to deliver).

.....

“This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers,” Mark Lazarus, chairman, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming said of the decision. “With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.” NBC will fill the gap left by Days with a new one-hour news program, NBC News Daily, anchored by Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist, Vicky Nguyen and Morgan Radford.

But Greg Rikaart later says he thinks it's more like 4-6 months. I hope he's closer to the truth.

I believe it's because they've been on hiatus. MBE didn't subtract that from the equation. They still said that's too far ahead. They have no clue what's aired.😂

It seems DAYS always cuts a lot of extra scenes anyhow to make its runtime. Perhaps going forward, the Peacock episodes will include everything and the syndicated episodes elsewhere will have its usual cuts for time.

Meanwhile, will we finally get to hear Marlena drop the F--- bomb or some other choice words to her enemies? That'd be nice :)

I still have this great GIF of Hope in BS2 where she sees Megan & says, HOLY SH*T!

I'm sure she could buy one but she wants the full tv view like she's always had. I told her that she had only September for the $1.99 deal. So if she can't get WiFi by then Days Of Our Lives will lose a viewer. She hasn't watched since Friday when it went off the air.

Supposedly they are 6 plus 1 out. 6 is in the can, on tape, finished. One month is in writing, been vetted, been rewritten according to notes. Personally I would hope at that point they'd toss the plus one. I doubt they know yet what they will do with little decisions like that.

That HAS to bode well for Days, at least as far as how its transition will be regarded.  Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip 2 likely contributed to those subscriptions, as well, plus the $1.99 deal. I'd be curious to see how much of that new 15 million happened prior to September and how much happened once the $1.99 deal kicked in.

While there are many factors that could have contributed, none of them have solid stats to support them. With that said, Peacock previously attributed its gains in subscribers this time last year and in Q1 to sports, specifically “Sunday Night Football,” the Olympics and “Bel-Air.”

Q2 was stagnant because they had nothing to offer while Q3 had the movies “Minions,” “Jurassic World: Dominion,” “Days of our Lives” move, next day airings of NBC/Bravo shows (after deal at Hulu ended) and a huge discount of $1.99 a month or $19.99 for a year.

I personally do not think you can grant a two million subscriber gain on a soap opera, especially when Peacock didn’t mention it once in any press release or announcement citing the increase in subs.

Facts

Meanwhile, Disney+ is claiming it added close to 14.5 million in Q3. So, if you want to compare in the streaming wars, Peacock is still trailing far behind the competition.

No, they ain't pulling those kind of numbers because of a low-budget soap-opera. Peacock is just thirsty. It's like one of those crockpots where you're like making beef stew or ratatouille and you accidentally set it on high heat. All of a sudden, you come home desperately wanting to rid a corn on your middle toe, right? When you open your front door, you smell something foul coming from the kitchen and you discover the mess with your crockpot. And it's so thirsty that it needs water.

Yeah. That's Peacock all wrapped up in a nutshell. But, hey! For .08 cents a day ...

(Oh, hey! That rhymes!)

Note: A post in this thread was deleted because it referenced a person who is not to be discussed on this forum, ever. Person is the Voldemort of SON and is oft referred to as “She who shall not be named.”

Now, I won’t go into details of who that is, or why this is, but there is a long history behind it and it’s best we keep them from being referenced on this forum. It’s nothing personal against them. There’s no beef. It’s just best for all.

Thank you.
