End of another face from a bygone era. RIP Kathryn! And I was just rewatching the Bob/Susan/Kim story from the early 90s. It was the epitome of mature charachters still being utilized! The multi generational community is what makes me love World Turns. Loved her short haircut and she was always well dressed! Glad we got to see her on the Locher room last year.

RIP to the one and only Kathryn Hays. That face, that voice...she was an icon of CBS Daytime and embodied literally every thought that crosses my mind when I think of "grandma's stories."

The more of early Kim that we can get our hands on, the better. I'd be happy to just see that very short tag scene of Kim and Jennifer from the end of a 1974-1975 episode one more time, with Kim's ENORMOUS hair taking up half the frame.

Julianne has often spoken of the generosity of Kathryn Hays and Don Hastings. No production Is perfect and I am sure BTS had its issues even in her time but I have always appreciated how Moore has chosen to highlight how the generosity of her colleagues on the show, from Marisa Tomei showing her around on her first day to Don and Kathryn showing her spaces to stand as to get the best light in scenes.

That cast photo and publicity still from the Doug Cummings story bring back so many memories rushing home from elementary school trying to get to see the second half of the show, even though I had usually programmed the VCR to record the episode. It was that compelling back in those days.

Since Julianne and Marisa Tomei are so close, I do wonder whether word has gotten to Tomei as well?

If were Letting it go into Kathryn's pre-ATWT years here are two moments of her great acting in her youth total opposites

i just googled maybe Kathryn wasn't around in 1975-76, She was absent for a while and Patty "Bad Seed" McConmarck subed for her for a considerable time, like they did with Betsy von Furstenberg as Lisa in the 1980's

Kim was pretty much front burner and popular when Patty played the role.

I wonder how she approached it and what the audience reaction was?

Did they perhaps delay some story points until Kathryn returned?

i'd love to see at least a photo of Patty as Kim as I've always known Patty to be blonde.Did she wear a dark wig to play Kim?

    • I can barely remember who was the person they tested her with for the AMC revival but I *do* remember kinda liking them together (anyone remember better?  lol)  But yes, I feel the same.  It might not help that when I became a regular viewer Tad was presumed dead and she was with Craig...  I do remember that my sister's best friend had been an AMC viewer with her mom and dad and that they were very excited that Tad was returning...
    • Well, that is weird. I do not see him but I only have him on Ignore on 2 accounts.
    • In the preview for the show back in February on Entertainment Tonight, Jeresa the costume designer was specific about each character's economic background, personality, and the character's personal fashion preferences.  Very much about the characters and not the actors. She said Eva is a thrifter, so her normal daily wardrobe would be something from a thrift store, and if BTG buys it new, they intentionally make it look used. So what you said fits about the type of thing a lower income person would buy for a fancy event.
    • As hard as it is for me to imagine anyone but Don Stewart as Mike Bauer...I dunno...maybe someone like "Adam-12"'s Kent McCord?  Or Robert Hogan?
    • Yep I don't hate Javi and then he's macking on Leo and I'm done with him. Leo is a failure who needs to go away   I am bracing myself for Alex reading the manuscript and imagining him and Stephanie as the main characters, because this couple has literally nothing else to do until Joy comes back showing
    • Oh yes. The towel scene though
    • Interesting that Donald May has been mentioned twice. He's on my dreamcast list for Alan. He was somewhat older than Stewart and Bernau, but he could have played either role. An actor I thought about for Mike was Dan Hamilton. He played a role on GL during the 60s, but enough time had passed that it shouldn't have been a problem. He usually played smarmy characters but it would have been cool if they had gone against typecasting.
    • I like Jed Allan, it has to be someone who can play authority but "good" authority to oppose Alan's bad. As mentioned upthread, can you imagine how it would have been with Alan and Mike against each other, with Roger in the mix. But I would have had Roger, ever the opportunist to try to take advantage of their fighting to make his own headway.  Maybe that could have been the storyline, Mike involved with Alex, but the constant fighting with Alan causes a rift (she like Mike fighting Alan when it is to her advantage, but he can be a bit self righteous and I can see him demanding her to disavow Alan publicly..) so that is how Roger lands in her bed, much to the consternation of BOTH Alan and Mike. I would like to have a woman of a certain age being fought over by two men (really three if you count Alan.
    • Please let May have less garbage time. The Y&R threads have shrunken, whereas I can barely keep up with the Beyond the Gates threads.
