This show is *very* poorly written right now. Just not thought through enough.

The racial optics of the story don’t bother me as much as it’s all so stupid. Esme framing Trina falls apart under the barest scrutiny. The PCPD have never been the brightest bulbs, but this is beyond silly.

When Esme first appeared, I had imagined that she would be somehow responsible for outing Curtis as Trina’s father, which would have devastated Trina and make more sense. But they wanted to do an umbrella story and make Esme the new supervillain to replace Peter. I suppose the ambition is admirable, but the execution is abysmal. It makes me not want to watch. Nikolas’s idiocy, for example, is too frustrating for words.

It's way too common on soaps now (and GH in particular) for the entire canvas to be allied against one obvious villain who everyone knows is responsible but they can't act. So it's just day after day and scene after scene of people scowling and complaining about so and so and doing nothing but making 'plans.' Esme is no different. They all know she did it and the (white) kids are no worse for wear, so where's the story? It feels like GH (and not just GH, Y&R does this too) coddling the aged audience by reassuring them nothing much will change or impact these characters in a serious way. Too often the stories just drone along.

To me not only Esme comes off Entitled but also racist. At least thats how I see Avery playing Esme and I wish GH would actually write those aspects on screen

I have always wondered how Esme got back into Sonny's cabin to retrieve her tape of Cam & Joss without setting off alarms or being caught on cameras.  A mob boss certainly has to have high-end security.

They act like we don’t live in the 21st century and understand how things work. Yes, it’s a TV show, but things like that take us out of the illusion. Maybe a lot of the older viewers wouldn’t question it, but this wouldn’t pass the smell test for even my 83-year-old mother.

But no one knows she went back there

Now if PCPD or Spenelli and Brick would Ping her phone they SHOULD uncover that she went back to the Cabin and can check the tapes

U think they would have done that already given that the sex tape was made there

I'm also as old as the hills and know enough to ask the question.  Josslyn was the only person with a key to that cabin and Esme & Spencer left before anyone had sex, so it seems obvious that "someone" had to retrieve the recordings if Trisha wasn't the villain.

This entire storyline (which they has really been going on since last September when they started planning the cabin trip) is the pits. Not one bit of it makes sense. They could have done something great here, and they could have kept it simple because there’s no need for it to be convoluted. They have some really strong teen actors (and lucked out that nuTrina is great) and they’re all wasted on nonsense.

If Spencer is going to be lying to Trina while acting as a double agent to get evidence on Esme it should be because Esme outright threatened to physically harm Trina if he goes near her again. Otherwise why not tell Trina he’s helping her? Not like Trina is going to reveal it to Esme. So dumb.

Week 18 April - Anna and Valentin reconnect

Anna has already returned to Port Charles from French Polynesia. Now Valentin returns.  Neither is aware that they had both been on the islands.

Valentin goes to visit Anna with a bottle of wine to woo her. He feels bad that he has been out of town for so long and unable to be supportive of Anna.  He knows that she needed to allow Peter to die, and that she might have had some residual stress about that mess, but he wasn't around if she did. They discuss this.

Valentin does not reveal to Anna that he had interactions with Jennifer Smith about the Ice Princess. Anna comments that Valentin has been out of town for a very long time, and that he has a suntan.  He claims to have been ill and was away convalescing.  She is aware that he's not telling everything, obviously, but she inwardly allows him the space to have his secrets.

The article hints at romantic vibes happening but there are no specifics mentioned.

Ms. Wu and Curtis discuss Marshall

Sneak peek preview from abc.com
https://abc.com/shows/general-hospital/video/vdka27468473

Ms. Selina Wu meets with Curtis. They discuss their agreement, that Curtis will allow her to have gambling in The Savoy, in exchange for a favor he had asked her about Marshall.

Ms. Wu updates Curtis that did as he requested: she got her people to illegally search Witness Protection records to find out more about Marshall.  Ms. Wu tells Curtis that the result of the search was that Marshall was *never* in Witness Protection.

    • Creatively, he probably should have stayed with The Doctors, where he stood out as an antihero lead. Not sure what happened with GH. He didn't have the same impact. Was it bad writing, not clicking with co-stars? Didn't they gave him a boat load of money to join GH in 1976? Was Mark Dante just a toned-down version of Nick Bellini? Were they basically the same character?
    • All I can think of is if a lot of big names were leaving around that time she wanted him back as a stopgap, although I have never seen any real evidence that he was popular with GH viewers.
    • I loved watching Shanice hand Leslie her ass and finally shutting her up. It was so good. I also love Martin & Smitty's family.  Anita has to have some sort of plan giving Leslie the tickets to mail for Winterfest. She has to be setting her up for a fall. It's pretty obvious to me Vernon is not cheating with Sharon. I think Sharon is helping him with his terrible singing voice for Winterfest. I still believe Bill & Dani are endgame but I love Dani & Andre too. I am definitely enjoying this story. And making Hayley a black widow is a nice twist.
    • Sorry for the spam. Wasn't sure where to put this, it's from Tony Geary's husband's IG. Tony watching Genie and Maurice on Mo's show.
    • This show is really trundling along BTW. When is someone going to show up to slit Beastmaster's throat or crack the whip on metrosexual Sidwell? (BTW, openly presenting this cheery bon vivant as casually bisexual would at least be something vaguely diverting.) At least kill Brennan by year's end. I'm bored.
    • She told Vanessa to "DOUBLE her offer" on the Jarvis house.  The Jarvis family accepted the doubled price.  Assuming the house has an appraised value of $2,000,000, she's theoretically paid the Jarvis family $4,000,000 for the house.  The bank would loan Leslie 80% of the appraised value ($1,600,000), and Leslie had to pay the balance with cash at closing --- $2,200,000.  She only had ONE million.  Where the hell did she get the rest?!  And now she's got contractors working on the house all day & half the night.  Who's paying THEM?  I keep thinking all this will crash around her.  Either that or the writers have absolutely no idea the limits of a million dollars.  Sounds like a "lot of money", but it obviously ain't when we look at Leslie's spending since she got that million dollar check in August.

    • Vernon is an idiot. Why would he have Sharon in the same hotel that Leslie is staying at?
    • Yes, that out of the blue return was odd. Maybe GG found a forgotten clause in the contract he signed when he was wooed to ABC and they were forced to take him back! Like George Reinholt he talked about the contract that promised him primetime roles. But it was loaded in the networks favor. I think it was Gloria Loring that re-signed at Days on the promise of primetime opportunities, but that was all it was- she was put up for guest spots and TV movies but not necessarily guaranteed that she get the role.
    • I still am baffled by why Monty brought back stunt hire Gerald Gordon in the early '80s out of nowhere for like a year. I haven't found anyone who can come up with a thing he did in that second stint of note.
