Same Actor, Different Names

Seeing the Locher Room interview with Maree Cheatham reminded me that some actors spell their name differently or use a new name from time to time. While on SFT, her credit was always Marie Cheatham. Per imdb, around 1989/1990 was when she changed the spelling of her first name.

IIRC, the role of Kit Vested on GL was originally credited to Nancy Addison, who changed the spelling to Nanci Addison during her time on GL. I believe she had changed the spelling back to Nancy by the time of Ryan's Hope, and eventually she added Altman.

Some of you probably recall that Nana Visitor got her last name by playing a character called Georgina Visitor on OLTL. Wiki says her name was originally Nana Tucker, but I had the vague impression that she had used Nancy as her first name. I also have a vague recollection that she and Steve Fletcher were a couple around that time, and that he briefly changed his credit to--was it Steve Blizzard or something like that?--before changing it back to Fletcher.

What other actors have been known by more than one name during their soap careers?

Nana went by Nana Tucker, her given name, while she was on Ryan's Hope. There she played Nancy Feldman, which may be why you're thinking of the name Nancy. Her OLTL character was Georgina Whitman. The name Visitor came from somewhere in her mother's family. I don't know about a relationship with SF, but while on RH, she was living with co-star Richard Muenz (Joe Novak).

Tyler Christopher (GH) started out as Tyler Baker.

Speaking of Nikolas, Stephen Martines was known as Coltin Scott when he played Nikolas on GH and then changed it to Martines when he went on to GL

Also, as reviewed in the News from Yesteryear thread, 1984 saw a huge number of last name changes including: Stephan Ferris (Ferrara), Steve Blizzard (Fletcher), Nana Visitor (Tucker), and Charles Flohe (Grant).

Note that despite their marriage, Kim Delaney was never credited as Kim Flohe (I'm sure she is happy about that decision today). However, YR/OLTL's Andrea Evans was briefly credited as Andrea Evans-Massey during her brief marriage to Wayne Massey, who briefly played Tina's love interest Johnny Drummond.

Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn was on The Doctors under the name Ellen McCrae.

Other actresses that took on a married name were of course Susan Seaforth Hayes, Nancy Pinkerton was later Nancy Pinkerton Peabody.

Melissa Brennan became Melissa Reeves.

In researching Soap Hoppers we found radio and tv actor Jimsey Somers become Jocelyn Somers and appeared on Days under that name.

Michael Dwight Smith (Danny Grant Days) changed his name to something like Hassan Rasheed for a time. I can't find the correct spelling atm  - Jason47? can u help?

Renee Props (Ellie ATWT) also acted under the name Babette Props

And let's not forget Tracey E Bregman and my personal favorite Tracey Bregman Recht.

And let's not also forget when Eva Longoria was on Why and Are. She went by Eva Longoria Christopher when she was married to Tyler Christopher.

I also remember while watching the various 90s credits to As The World Turns that Tamara Tunie briefly went by Tamara Tunie Bouquett.

    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
