It's occurred to me that we lost at least 3 actors this year who appeared in the original Roots: John Amos, James Earl Jones and Lou Gossett. 

There have been so many high-profile deaths recently that this one almost slipped through unnoticed....

She also had a small but memorable role in Hitchcock's "Frenzy", among other things.

I am such a fan of Miss Cissy's, and the storied history of the Drinkards has captivated me for years. What a gifted family.

I adore her Gospel-tinged covers like The Beatles' Yesterday, and her soprano obbligato in Aretha's Ain't No Way steals the track.

She is one of those celebs I wish I could have met and hugged. I hope her final days were peaceful and painless, Lord knows she'd been through enough.

So much of Cissy's later years were about Whitney and their complex relationship that it can almost be hard to remember just how storied her career was. 

I think about the clip in the Greatest Love of All video with Whitney and her mother - that song has always been so beautiful to me, and now it means even more.

 

Ethel Kennedy, RFK Jr's mother, has died at 96.

I believe so, @applcin.  It's weird how most of the MTMS cast (minus Ted Knight) lived for so long; and then, in the span of a few years, they all passed away.

Joyce Bulifant is still alive, although I don't know if she counts. (similarly, Lisa Gerritsen is still alive)
