I completely agree.  I've never understood why people rave about this storyline being so great.  It was probably the most ridiculous and unbelievable serial-killer storyline ever on daytime.  I think people are afraid to criticize it or admit how stupid it was, because it was Loving's swan song. Sort of out of reverence for the show, I guess.

I wouldn't think anything of it, except that people rave about it, including the soap "press" at that time, and its stupid...why not throw a vicious hamster in it would be as believable.

The only other serial killer which was as stupid was Marlena the Salem Stalker...the victims had to be morons to get killed and she left so much DNA at each scene..but at least she used a gun,  a knife, poison....not something you had to buy from a James Bond villain.

I have no particular reverence for Loving, but I found the Loving Murders to be an enjoyable story. Yes, the deaths were over the top, but I didn't mind that because there was so much else grounding the story. When I think of the junk that airs today on the soaps, this story seems like a masterpiece in comparison. To me, the story is no more ridiculous than making a mobster the moral centre of a show, transforming a rapist into a romantic hero, vampires, burials, rerapings, etc.

Only last week one of the most prolific posters in here was critical of the story. I don't think anyone is afraid of saying they don't care for it. It's certainly a flawed story but has many strong moments.

I think the killer taking out most of the prominent family in town one by one, and how the suspects played out and the acting involved are better than the actual mechanics of the murders, and are why the attention happened at the time.  It was bold.  The specialized advertising campaign was also pretty fun.

I have only seen this story from the person that started uploading recently.  I agree the deaths have been kind of silly and over the top, but I am enjoying it.  I especially though Jeremy’s death was stupid.

It plays like masterful soap compared to what I have seen on any of the remaining ones for close to a decade though.

    • Like a lot of soaps, once relatives left, they kinda dropped off the face of the earth and out of conversations. I don't know why writers do that. If they just don't want to confuse viewers, or don't think it matters, or want the liberty kind of revise history to make their stories work. After Josh left in '84, he's barely mentioned. Even when Billy's railing against Kyle and refusing to accept him, it'd be the most natural thing in the world to say "Kyle's NOT by brother, JOSH is!" and I don't think he ever really says that.  The only writer I can recall who didn't do that is Doug Marland on ATWT.
    • IIRC, there is a line during this time period where Reva says something like Marah is her first-born child, which fans were not thrilled with.  Dylan makes a few appearances through the rest of the show (and a much later recast that isn't really worth talking about, with a face that is familiar to you). He will make one briefly during 1997, if you get that far.
    • Another great episode.  GH has been pretty good this year, loading up the chamber, because now there's many bullets to fire, and another one was fired today when Nina found out Michael is the father of Sasha's baby.  I hope this secret comes out at the hearing.  I've also liked the slow burn with Gio/Emma. There's just so many things to look forward to on this show now.  GH is finally back to being really good.

    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
    • Rewatching some of 1991 I had to appreciate what a strong week March 5-12 1991 was. Cassandra dies, Nina shoots David, Sheila switces the babies, and drunk Nikki all occurring simultaneously. 1991 and 92 were pretty strong overall.
    • Still loving all the Gio fallout, but the scenes that really surprised me this episode were the ones with Nina and Maxie. I was not expecting Nina to be the one to put together all the pieces about Sasha's baby daddy. This custody hearing is about to get explosive!
    • I really hope after the secret comes out their interactions don't stop
    • BAHAHA  I needed that laugh today. Talk about one note.  I would put Derek and Ashley a notch above Dani. Dani's scenes are basically rinse, lather, and repeat for 60 episodes and counting.  It's as if she was transported from the soap opera Passions onto this soap.  MVJ should put aside her friendship/admiration for Karla and look at the fact that this character isn't wroking as written.
