June 6, 20223 yr Member Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” re-enters the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 8, giving Kate her first U.S. top 10 hit. Harry Styles remains at No. 1 for a fifth week:
June 7, 20223 yr Member An interesting chart note re: Kate Bush’s resurgent “Running Up That Hill” from Variety: Quote On the U.S chart, it’s almost unheard of for an older song to jump into the top 10, even after a widely celebrated synch or following a celebrity death. It’s believed a non-Christmas catalog tune has not re-entered this high in its original recorded form since Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” went to No. 2 in 1992, after being featured in “Wayne’s World.” In 2020, Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” enjoyed a huge surge in popularity in 2020 due to a TikTok meme, but still made it only as far as No. 12 on the chart. June 17, 20223 yr Member I didn't know where else to put this, and this feels like a relatively appropriate place. Kate Bush is number one, thanks to Stranger Things 44 years after her first, and up to this date last, number one single in the UK, Kate Bush hits #1 again. 🎉

Behold, the power of popular television series. I'm definitely one that has been playing this over and over for the last 3 weeks and counting!

June 27, 20223 yr Member God, these records are so meaningless in the current chart era with these formulas in place.

I wish, by some magic, we could project the modern-day formulas (so much more accurate with how people listen to music) to yesteryear. While “gatekeepers” like radio DJs and TV programmers colluding with record companies still have a lot of power, much of it has shifted to the hands of the people. You couldn’t track repeated listens on an album you bought years ago vs. an album you bought and only listened to once. You can do that when each “spin” is tracked on a streaming service. But, yes, trying to compare Drake’s chart records with that of the Beatles is very apples-and-oranges.
June 28, 20223 yr Member I cannot believe Drake now has more #1s on the Billboard Hot 100 than Janet Jackson, and that he is now tied with Whitney Houston. The next solo artists in line for him to tie with are Madonna (12), Michael Jackson (13), and Rihanna (14).
June 28, 20223 yr Member If Rihanna hadn't stalled her music career, she likely would have been closer to or surpassed The Beatles by now.
