So we're wrong for wanting them to mix it up?

I don't get you sometimes ;)

I want them interacting and sharing scenes.

Yes, isolation is a problem on soaps. I don't mind it sometimes, it works in some cases.

I'd think you'd agree with us on this, so it's kind of bizarre you're arguing about it. I truly think you're taking this all the wrong way and making it something it's not meant to be.

Lol. It's exactly what I think it is.

I didn't say you're wrong for wanting the cast to intermingle. I just realize that it comes from a white normative space when it's said about black characters.

I do think Ana needs a romance. I'd pick Noah for her. I don't want her with Nate much like I don't like summer with Kyle. They thought they were siblings for some time. It's too close to home.

When you really think about it, having isolated casts who only interact with a small circle is a relatively new phenomenon to most soaps (i.e. less than twenty years) and if we're honest, it seems to be mostly a dictate borne of budget restraints (the ability to negotiate salaries down, based on gross appearances).

I despised Mal's Y&R. But I will always thank him for dumping Kevin and Chelsea  and finding a Kyle that has lots of potential. Summer nearly took a nosedive but that's since recovered. Abby's still kinda just ... there. I liked the rage aspect where she smashed his truck. I think Abby as a character has a lot of potential but they seem too focused on finding a pairing for her that works instead of developing her as a character. IDK ...

Although M.O. seems like a nice person IRL, a soap needs either an actress with strong ability to rise over mediocre writing, or quality of writing so strong that it lifts and give heft to even the most mediocre of actresses...can't be lacking in both.

Ooh. Noah. I kinda forget about him ... lol. He really should be on the canvas. I also think they missed the boat not having Noah bang Chelsea behind Nick's back. I thought MCE and Adamson had some chemistry.

That's my feelings on Summer and Kyle too. I also live in a world where they SHOULD be siblings. But I think they make sense in story together. IDK. I guess I'm torn. And I've always been hot and cold with Summer and Hunter King.

Very much agreed on M.O. I think she was good casting for Ashley's daughter, IMHO. I know many don't seem to like her. I think she's limited I guess. But then I see a few moments and I think there's potential. IDK. I'd personally rather not see Abby recast yet again though. And I'm not sure why some on Twitter are stanning for Emme Rylan to return. She's a limited actress too, but does a better job playing a spoiled brat than a heroine (again, IMO). IDK. They need to know who Abby is and what they want her to be. But it'd be nice if the actress playing her shined above the material.

EDIT: Very much agreed it's a budget related problem, as well as sometimes a writing problem. Like DAYS. The budget and scheduling is the major factor in why like only two people can share scenes. They seem to be trying a new way to get around that somehow. It's very annoying to see the bubbles and it's very much budget related, IMO (and some of it likely story choice)

It's because the show stopped telling stories and playing the appropriate beats for characters. Let's take Neil in 1995.  He had his own family at home so he was involved in stories with Malcolm, Dru, and Olivia. He worked at NE so he interacted with folks there and was integral to story with Newmans.  Then he had the Abbot connection through Mamie and Olivia and would play beats to story where it made sense. At least to my young eyes.  I know people had issues with how he was written but how he he was used made sense. Compare that to Neil of 4 years ago. He was in a triangle with his son and did nothing else. When the show went away from story based to couple based, it gauranteed less interaction all around. These people have no reason to interact. They just go around town bumping of each other.

Giving Abby an identity outside of her relationships would only be a good thing but I'm not sure that it's a guarantee when an actress has limited ability.  M.O. should really be rallying to have ED, MA and BM in as many scenes with her as possible.  Surrounding the actress with top-drawer soap talent as often as possible could boost her levels.  I've seen it happen with other middling talents on soaps.  After that, you really need good writing, though because standing in others' starpower only goes so far.

I get that they don't want to write for noah with his parents still bed hopping like their 27. But....Ana and Noah could be a stable supporting couple in the midst of the chaotic younger set.

All very true.

Regarding today's show. I wonder what direction they will take Cane in now. With Lily telling him she wants to get a divorce and move away from GC. She also brought up how she's not Sam's mother. Some months ago, she actually said she was proud to love Sam as her own. But it looks like that has changed now, that she's not really around much on the show.

Cane is the type of character you could pair with just about anybody. I wonder what other woman he may become involved with. Maybe someone who will end up raising Sam as their own.

I also wonder how long Rebecca Barlowe will stay around. She's kind of interesting.

+1 Abby needs a purpose. She just exist to suck the life out of men. That's not enough.

I once thought Cane could have had a lot of potential as the 'new Brad' so to speak but I feel that ship has sailed. I'm really surprised they haven't let Goddard go. Cane has never really felt necessary to me. I thought Cane/Victoria was a missed beat and opportunity. They would have made more sense in the long run then trying to force Billy and Victoria.

I was thinking starting cane over with Abby when the twins leave. Victor disapproving.  it's story he show knows how to tell.  But I think Nate might be her next romance.

It look like the show was headed towards doing something with Cane and Victoria. The spoilers for the Winter even hinted at it. But then it was dropped, around the time Mal was let go. On today's show they had Cane spend some time with Traci. She took him home after he got drunk and in an argument with Billy.  She was giving him advice and offered to listen to his problems. I thought that was interesting. I don't know where the show may be going with that interaction.

I don't know if it would be interesting but I'd be OK if they tried out Cane and Abby in a last ditch 'let's see if this works to save both of them' but at the same time ... I'm ready for Cane to hit the road.
