Lawd. I don't miss the Child of the Corn version of Michael. *shudders*

I miss that old set. I miss Alan. I DO NOT miss Kung Fu Courtney. I miss Ted King. I miss Tamara Braun playing an interesting character ...

Anywho, not the point of the thread ... would be fun to have threads where we watch old episodes and discuss them ...

I miss that lighting!  And Skye.

And this is a period of time I could not watch the show daily anymore.  Totally misogynistic writing.  No balance.  Sonny or Sonny adjacent on 3 to 4 days a week.  So many women obsessed with Sonny.

Courtney shoved down our throats.  Carly with Sonny’s enemy (and I like Ted King, loved him with Skye, but did not get this relationship).

Also- I just hate this version of Alan.  He was never perfect.  He could even be dangerous and deadly.  But this is just awful to watch.  It’s hard to see him reduced to this character that is also obsessed with Sonny.

I will forever think Billy Warlock was miscast as AJ, but what does it matter?  He was never going to be given rooting value or a point of view that makes sense.

SUCH a missed opportunity. Kanan was let go because he wasn't a slim beefcake Frank could salivate over

but seriously, I hate AJ was resurrected only to be "permanently" killed. And I loved when Michael took AJ's side and dumped Sonny. Of course Mo bitched. I imagine lots of different factors played into the decision.

They had to pay for Roger Howarth somehow

I prefer my Skye in Pine Valley  But I did enjoy her on GH and even OLTL. She works anywhere. But I hated her 'home' became GH ... looking back I would have made Eve Alan's daughter.

I believe Sean Kanan left the second time because he criticized Ron Carlivati on Twitter.  He said something like he did not return for relish and panic attacks. There was a bit of back and forth and then AJ was dead.

He also criticized Ron’s stop and start storytelling.  His story, amongst others, were building and then dropped for weeks at a time.  Which Ron still has a problem with.

This was also a clear place where Frank should have done what was right for the show.  Not what Ron wanted or what his own ego wanted.

I am always suspicious of stories about writers firing actors.  As well as accusations of writers being vindictive toward certain actors.  It is such a larger production, and there is such little interaction between writers and actors, that I wonder if behaviors like criticizing a production on twitter are indicative of larger issues.  Of course, there are legends that Irna Phillips killed off actors for far fewer transgressions, but I think those days were before WGA contracts, an actor's perceived liability could be calculated, and other contemporary production concerns are considered in the hiring/firing of actors.

I believe that what is often inferred as gossip from social media is often only the tip of the iceberg.

I agree that most of the time the fan view of vindictive firings is usually not accurate.  But this was one instance where I think it probably was.

Frank likes people that are team players.  AJ was brought back from the dead, had a romantic relationship and was driving story with ELQ, Michael and  Sonny for months.  I am not saying that Kanan wasn’t a prima donna bts.  But the timing was suspicious.

And more than anything, ABC and Frank should have dealt with Ron’s online behavior. Any criticism had him lashing out at talent and audience.

My favorite nicknames for her were Kung Fu Chick and Skipper.

I often wondered why Sonny didn't add her to his security detail, because she was much more competent in that department compared to his useless henchmen like Max. Ironically, the only time Courtney was ever tolerable...was when she was with AJ.

    • I don't really care about what the men are wearing, or not wearing.   What I care about is focusing on the writing and character development for each of the male characters. Andre really doesn't have a lot of character development that sets him apart from the other male characters except that he seems content to be degraded and mistreated by the elitist Dani.  I would like to know why a good looking younger guy like Andre would willingly be at the mercy of an emotional vampire such as Dani.   Martin, on the other hand, seems to have decent character development.. and it is partly due to how the actor chooses to recite his lines.  Martin was raised in a very privileged household and probably went to the best schools... so it makes sense that he would come across as thinking he was above everyone else.  Most people raised in a upper class situation as the Duprees would view themselves as better than others (it's the same trait Dani seems to employ on those she feels superior to). It makes me wonder how Nicole came out of that family being so warm and nurturing  when her family dynamics seemed very appearance oriented.
    • I know, right. I after just re-reading the thread, I'm like ooppph!
    • Lulu and Dante were divorced before her coma, but she was still in love with him.  He just didn't know.  They haven't been married for years.    I was pretty mixed about Lulu getting involved when it was just a child out there in the world, but now that she realizes it's Gio I am okay with her telling Dante.  It also is her son's sibling.  I still think it's BLQ's choice though.  Lulu is in a rough spot because I think Dante will be mad if she keeps it a secret and Chase, Brook, Lois, etc will be mad if Lulu tells. Without veering too far into the classic area of the show, I had no problem with Robin telling AJ about Michael.  It may not have *exactly* been her place, but she could see how Carly was manipulating the entire situation.  It also ruined her romantic relationship with Jason for good.  Jason and Sonny were furious with Robin and practically ran her out of town, so I think we were to believe she was the bad guy.  It was a bit out of character for Robin to spill, but KMc was leaving the show.
    • Rewatching/binging THE X-FILES Seasons 1 and 2 (almost done). So much fun re-experiencing, especially re-discovering some of the monster-of-the-week stories. THE WEST WING Seasons 1 and 2 as well - so good to rewatch now with 20 years more life experience and understanding. ALSO.... lol FOOTBALLERS' WIVES Season 3, which is just as bonkers as I remember and so so so so fun. I had forgotten about that iconic season cliffhanger. Good times. Excited to rewatch Seasons 4 and 5 since I remember so very little about them. Hope you've been enjoying!
    • @Toups Tyler Topits listed in alpha order with the breakdown writers 5/12 Monday episode. O'Connor still listed as both breakdown and script writer. Kreizman wrote today's script.
    • Marland was long gone by this point.  He quit in either August/September 1982. I think it was due to letting the actress play out her contract and use her for party scenes and/or scenes with Phillip/Justin.   I was surprised she was still on in June 1983 myself, because I figured she had been written out before Pam Long joined the writing staff. Thankfully, having episodes uploaded during this period on Spauldingfield YT site has helped to connect some of the dots.  It looks as though Pam Long starts the first week or so of May 1983.. and in those first few weeks: Morgan and Evie were both written off and Lillian/Mindy/Billy/Beth/Annabelle all come onto the show.
