Beanie Babies were to the 90's as what Pet Rocks were to the 70's. I remember those things being piled high and crammed in car windows where the driver could barely see. I think CR also did some time for tax evasion back in the mid 80's and was on work release to continue on GH

Yes, CR was arrested for tax evasion in the mid-1980s. He did indeed do work release at that time, and was in custody when not on the GH set.

Back to the centerfold I was mentioning with Robert Kelker-Kelly and Miriam Parrish, SOM mentioned on the cover that it was "Daytime's Sexiest Centerfold!" I do not agree. Daytime's SLEAZIEST Centerfold? Absolutely.

I'm trying to remember. I know certain soap mags ended up doing risque pictorials of male stars. TV By Day had a very sexy speedo shot of Nick Benedict (Phil on AMC), and Daily TV Serials had hot, skimpy underwear shots of Beau Kayser (Brock, Y&R).

Wow.. and people think the 80s was the start of featuring beef cake soap actors LOL

I'm pleasantly surprised to see some nice 70s pictorials of some of the male stars

The difference back then was that the actors could actually act and had personality to go with their looks.

Oh yes! I remember that now ! RM was a very handsome man but Scott Banning was a go-nowhere role. And the definitive Scott, IMHO, was the likeable Mike Farrell.

I distinctly remember a rather risqué pictorial with Kin Shriner circa 1978-1979. It may have been in Daytime TV or Afternoon TV. In the photos, he was frolicking around on the beach and wearing skimpy shorts. Apparently, the editors missed the fact that a portion of his genitalia was quite visible in one of the photos.

There was a shot of Richard Guthrie wearing short-shorts, with part of a testicle exposed, when the actor was on Days. And TV Dawn to Dusk printed a picture from a Y&R party, where Tom Hallick was opening fondling Brenda Dickson's breast. The caption remarked that although he was surrounded by beautiful castmates, Hallick had the situation "well in hand," LOL.

This day and time Tom Hallick would have had a sexual harassment suit on his hands and the loss of his job.

The 70's/80's was a big time when they pushed the male model/beefcake angle. There were a ton of movies and TV shows that featured it as a plot and actors were posing in nude/risque layouts for magazines.  Y&R even hired professional stripper/nude model John Gibson as Cash the owner of The Bayou. JG was engaged to marry Vanna White when he was killed in a plane crash in 1986.

Reading old magazines is funny in hindsight when you see what great lengths they went to hide actors private lives and doing features like TV's most eligible bachelors etc...Actors on the list would include people like Anthony Geary, Richard Guthrie, Terry Lester, David O'Brien, Dennis Cooney etc...

Oh yes, trying to get into any soap from scratch starting post-2010 would be hard. I prefer to go back to the good ol' days, before the decline.
    • Can we talk about how iconic the 1994 tornado was on AMC? I was scanning through old episodes last night and came across this episode. The tornado was epic and the storylines/aftermath were so good (Julia's scar/Noah!; Jenny/Ray/Nola/Jesse in heaven with Tad, etc).  For 1994, these special effects and budget for this big event were amazing. 10 out of 10!  The only thing missing is Erica!  I can't recall where Erica was at the time, but I really wish she had been involved in this storyline.

    • On the way to her own engagement party? I've read that the show had trouble getting the audience to sympathize with Rita, but...that seems bizarre. Maybe I can understand the issue with the censors, given that at the time, rape wasn't depicted the way it is now, and marital rape was even less acknowledged.  Wasn't Chris Brooks' rape one of the first honest stories on the subject? I just don't think I could get into a show I didn't have a working knowledge of. I know it's a different era, but I really tried to get into GH once Maura West joined, but it just never jelled.
    • Yes it was! My mom and I convinced my dad to get one. He was--how shall I put this?--on the thrifty side, but one day he came home with one as a surprise. To this day, I'm convinced it fell off a truck. (He knew people with "connections."

) BUT, we had our VCR and we could watch our soaps. That thing lasted forever! It was built like a tank. Even when we got new ones with more features, we kept that one.

Blasphemy!  (Haha, I get it.  But, you should try watching AMC! 80s-90s was so good.)
    • I thought about saying how I resented the fact that those two newbies were tripping up the Puppetmaster of all Puppetmasters, when the best others could do was a stalemate (or less...). But, well...*sigh*
    • I read years ago that both Zaslow and Lenore both complained that it came off as a seduction because of CBS censors, so Lenore asked if she could say, "you raped me" to leave no doubt with the audience, and that Zaslow insisted that Holly's rape played realistically
    • Wow it’s official, Gatwa is out… https://www.avclub.com/ncuti-gatwa-addresses-doctor-who-finale-statement DW fandom on Reddit is in a furor over how things went down and apparent last minute scrapping of the original ending. Also…Billie Piper again really?
    • He comes pretty close, talkin' about how Reva is full of love and joy, blah blah....which is bilge considering he was the one responsible for throwing her out of Josh's life over working with Alan.
    • Just watched the episode concerning Olivia's drug use and Abby's persistence, etc. Donna Mills did stellar work in this episode, as did Tonya Crowe and Brian Austin Green (Brian).
