Y&R is seeking a sexy, African-American actor in his early 30s to play Ryder, a gifted photographer with swagger. The show is looking for someone who is a minimum of 6 feet tall for the recurring role that is set to begin taping on January 6.

I think they'll try to pair lily with a black man again. I've always felt her having been with only white guys hurts her character with black female viewers.  

He'll be gone in a year.

No doubt though. He won't make it a year. If he starts in January, my prediction is he will disappear by August and make a final appearance before November sweeps. 

A younger Malcolm coming in basically. I don't want him wasted on Lily and being some 10 minute obstacle for tired ass Lane like Tyler was. No thanks. That leaves Hilary unless they dare pair him with a white gal like Abby. I agree that Ryder won't last long though. 

Can they bring back that black guy Lily was about to date last time as this new character.

I guess he could be angst for Devon and Hilary. But it goes against every rule of soap writing to pair an unconnected newbie with another unconnected character viewers aren't very keen on at the moment. I mean, it makes for a great exit story but that's  about it. 

 

I think it's safe to say, he's not for Hilary. Maybe you're  right and  they'd go there with Abby again.

Soaps always in the mind set to " Make America Great Again". It would be nice that he's not for Hillary & try him with beige Lily or one of the white girls.

That said I hope the show is able to cast outside of their comfort zone for this role. But I doubt it.

Exactly. Look at Tyler & Mason. Both of them were tossed aside after a year, and I felt both of them had tons of potential. 

 

I'm at this point with soaps, don't even cast for minorities at all anymore because they never write for characters like us anyways. I'd prefer for them to be frank and not even try at this point. I'm tired of my skinfolk being used as window dressing and talk-to characters.

This is why I wish they'd woo back Davetta OR recast Lily. Christel Khalil has been a hinderance to Lily. 

 

Boogles my mind how Lily is the scion of 3 of the most pro-Black characters (Dru/Malcolm/Neil) on soaps, but she's never batted an eyelash at a Black man. 

 

I would't be surprise he's for Lily or Hillary & somehow they become a triangle. We know they want the blacks in their own little story line.

You're giving Neil a lot of credit there lol.

 

But I'm 99% sure that Lily not being with a black guy is in large part thanks to Christel "I'm not black" Khalil's reluctance. God they need to fire her.
