Star Trek icon Nichelle Nichols has been cast on The Young and the Restless, Mashable can exclusively reveal.

Nichols will portray Lucinda, a character who shares an "emotional connection" to a main cast member, CBS teases.

That's great. I wasn't sure if she was still acting. I wish she'd been involved in the new Trek movies. I guess they didn't think she was worthwhile enough. Their loss.

This is nice but is CBS doing anything for Star Trek's 50th anniversary?

creating a new Star Trek series LOL, that's probably about it

I'm not sure Nichelle was well enough to do the new films. Plus, they opted out of not including Shatner when they had the material written. Nonetheless this is a wonderful choice.

The new Bryan Fuller series, which I am insanely excited about. His top choice for captain has always been Angela Bassett, but I think she's committed to more AHS.

I know about the new series, what I meant is are they going to honor the original series or spin-offs in any way? This should be the YEAR of Star Trek!

I saw a video of the new ship...which is a rejected version of the Enterprise that would have been used for Star Trek: Phase II back in '78. it looks God-awful.

I just worked on an anniversary film project for it with the Smithsonian, actually.

It should be airing on TV, you cock.

YAY! That's the LEAST they can do, I'll be paying close attention to the voiceovers...let's hope you didn't eff it up!
