Happy Days 50.  I can't even put into words what the show means to me.  All of the memories.  And memories of my Mom and Grandmother- who loved the show.  Great memories like the always classic Kristen wedding to John with Susan surprising us.  Or Vivien burying Carly alive.  Both Carrie's and Sami's weddings to Austin.  My God- the memories.  Princess Gina, Marlena in the pit.  The Sami/Nicole baby switch story.  All classics. Congratulations and many more.

These two are going to live forever. Forever. And after all these years, they have such love and adoration for each other. It's quite remarkable, both onscreen and off.

Days of Our Lives was my savior during my adolescent and teen years. I'm so glad I stumbled upon it randomly one summer day, when they were promoting the possession storyline, and I had to know what the HECK that was about! Although I only caught the very tail end of it (Marlena and John in the morgue), I immediately became attached to such storylines as Carrie/Austin/Sami (Sami coming home during their wedding and announcing she was pregnant and Austin was the daddy), as well as Hope/Bo/Billie (Hope had just opened Tom Horton's puzzlebox, and later at the shooting range flash backed to all her memories as Hope).

The Aremid storyline will forever be my all-time favorite DAYS story arc. The stakes were high (John on death row, Hope in the avalanche, Stefano regaining his memory and Marlena attempting to seduce him to get a hold of the infamous diary), the mood was dark, gothic, thrilling escapism. The production values were gorgeous for a soap. Back in Salem, you had Sami clutching onto Austin, and Kate clawing her way back from the fishing boat to find Victor just as he was about to bed Vivian.... The Lady in White, The Parrot Man, Kristen doubting John's innocence, Jenn & Peter's lavish wedding, Bo & Hope getting closer, Marlena and John's deep feelings for one another resurfacing, Lexie learning that Celeste was her ma and Stefano was her pa. Just excellent, excellent stuff. 1996 as a whole was just a fantastic year, IMO, from January in Aremid all the way through December, with Kristen meeting Susan and Austin mowing down Sami with his car.

There have been lots of ups and downs throughout the years, and sometimes I think the DAYS that I knew never recovered after Reilly's second stint (2003-2007), but there's still sparkling moments from time to time, and their recent turnaround has been a welcome treat. After daytime lost four soaps in the course of 3 years, I make it a point to stick with DAYS until the sands stop running through the hourglass. Though watching the show with excitement rather than as a chore is much preferred! :)

    • Like a lot of soaps, once relatives left, they kinda dropped off the face of the earth and out of conversations. I don't know why writers do that. If they just don't want to confuse viewers, or don't think it matters, or want the liberty kind of revise history to make their stories work. After Josh left in '84, he's barely mentioned. Even when Billy's railing against Kyle and refusing to accept him, it'd be the most natural thing in the world to say "Kyle's NOT by brother, JOSH is!" and I don't think he ever really says that.  The only writer I can recall who didn't do that is Doug Marland on ATWT.
    • IIRC, there is a line during this time period where Reva says something like Marah is her first-born child, which fans were not thrilled with.  Dylan makes a few appearances through the rest of the show (and a much later recast that isn't really worth talking about, with a face that is familiar to you). He will make one briefly during 1997, if you get that far.
    • Another great episode.  GH has been pretty good this year, loading up the chamber, because now there's many bullets to fire, and another one was fired today when Nina found out Michael is the father of Sasha's baby.  I hope this secret comes out at the hearing.  I've also liked the slow burn with Gio/Emma. There's just so many things to look forward to on this show now.  GH is finally back to being really good.
    • I'm all for it. Get them Nina!

    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
    • Rewatching some of 1991 I had to appreciate what a strong week March 5-12 1991 was. Cassandra dies, Nina shoots David, Sheila switces the babies, and drunk Nikki all occurring simultaneously. 1991 and 92 were pretty strong overall.
    • Still loving all the Gio fallout, but the scenes that really surprised me this episode were the ones with Nina and Maxie. I was not expecting Nina to be the one to put together all the pieces about Sasha's baby daddy. This custody hearing is about to get explosive!
    • I really hope after the secret comes out their interactions don't stop
    • BAHAHA  I needed that laugh today. Talk about one note.  I would put Derek and Ashley a notch above Dani. Dani's scenes are basically rinse, lather, and repeat for 60 episodes and counting.  It's as if she was transported from the soap opera Passions onto this soap.  MVJ should put aside her friendship/admiration for Karla and look at the fact that this character isn't wroking as written.
