I know him mostly from films. Big loss.

Handsome guy. Strong, understated screen presence. I always liked him in The Birds. I always sort of wanted him to have a happy ending with Suzanne Pleshette in that movie.

He did so much wild exploitation stuff and schlock in the '60s and '70s and he classed it all up while not being out of place in the slightest, just strong and resolute. I always dug him. They just showed one of his rarest films, Darker than Amber, at the BAM Cinematek in Brooklyn a month or two ago; I think it's on YT.

And, in the realm of the uncanny, Anita Ekberg, to whom he was once briefly engaged, died a few days later on January 11, what would have been Rod's 85th birthday.
