NBC was a mess in the early 80's.

In July 1980 they averaged a 5.0/20 over the previous 14 weeks compared to ABC 7.5/29 and CBS 6.5/26

In its debut week NBC's David Letterman 90 min morning show had a 2.6/13 compared to a 3.6/18 for the 3 gameshows it replaced. NBC obviously hoped  it would build but that never happened.

The week of Letterman's debut NBC could only manage a 4.5/18 daytime rating.

NBC was a mess in both daytime and primetime back then. As we all know, NBC didn't recover in primetime until the breakout success of The Cosby Show, but NBC remained a mess in daytime despite supercouple-era Days getting alot of hype in the soap press.

Can someone fill me on Regis's NBC show?

I recall watching the premiere because my family were big Regis fans from his local morning show AM LA (Los Angeles)

But, I was looking at 1982 ratings and saw that the show was listed as 30 minutes.  Did NBC reduce the show from 60 to 30 minutes, or was it always 60 and I was mistaken?

When referencing ratings, I think we should be careful in distinguishing Household rating vs demo rating. When I see 5.0 and above used to reference the 1980s figures for some shows, I immediately think it’s households but in reality it is Adults 18-49. But that’s not stated.

Just a thought.

    • Erwin Nicholson's last episode as SFT ep was 11/21. Whitesell started 11/22/85. Erwin was on board from March 8, 1985 so less than 9 months. Whitesell lasts six months (approximately) before P&G moved him to AW for two years where he primarily worked with DePriest. Whitesell was replaced on Search by no daytime experience David Lawrence who closed out the show's last six months.
    • CBS is commemorating Don Diamont's 40th anniversary of his start on CBS soaps.  (They're not counting his 1984 on DAYS). Y&R posted on IG, to appear on B&B and cbstv IG accounts as well. (IG post link)  It's a batch of photos. Y&R posted same photos on facebook  (fb post link) Y&R did a youtube with individual messages from their cast: Heartfelt and fun from Peter Bergman, Beth Maitland, Eileen Davidson, Tracey Bregman, Joshua Morrow, and Eric Braeden. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdFxgA7gPcY Stephanie Sloane interviewed Diamont for tvinsider/tvguide. This interview includes his time at DAYS. Short version of interview was in TVGuide print magazine earlier in May. • I assume in name only?  One Stormy Night wasn't exactly steamy.  If it's a literal throwback then Stephanie's writing about sexy times her own Uncle was having lol. Since I am going to surmise it's just a throwback to the name, Night Sins and Winter Heat both sound sexier.  Just saying.  I swear Jamey (and Ron) just google things and land on the first thing they like and decide it's a good throwback to history without watching it.

    • Thanks!   Was anyone watching during this time? Wondering how Peggy’s rape played out onscreen. It just seems cruel to subject the Brooks family to this trauma a 2nd time.   Feels like the writers have already given up on the character of Jennifer, even though she sticks around another year-plus. She should be a passionate and fierce protective mother, but instead she seems just reactionary (and not even mentioned in this recap) This was also the case in ‘73 when Chris was raped. The writers are definitely more invested Stuart as the Brooks parent.
    • BTG got another SNL reference at 00:50  CONTEXT (so it isn't misconstrued) in this joke swap segment, Michael Che frequently makes his white cohost Colin Jost read racist jokes written by Che.

    • It's obvious that Israel's presence is a major divisive issue, and this is something that the EBU needs to deal with. According to the now published results Israel got 13 out of a possible 19 max points in the semi-final, and while their song isn't bad there's no way they would get those numbers without some kind of manipulation/political voting. They are clearly using this contest as a way of improving their somewhat tarnished reputation. I know that some people are comparing this to the massive sympathy votes that Ukraine gets and which propelled them to victory in 2022, but I feel that that was a more genuine show of support than this concerted effort from Israel to influence the televoting. I even had an ad on Youtube from Israel in Swedish(!) asking for votes! It might not be against any rules, but it feels a bit icky nonetheless.
