It's funny they put the OJ simpson trial, I guess that really was a big deal in the soap world. i don't remember it as much as others would. I mean i know of it and remember it as a whole but i don't remember it affecting my soap watching.

I was watching the Viki's alters story of 1995 but i don't remember it affecting it. Obviously it did. I do remember one time a new alter came out on a Friday but then the Oklahoma City Bombing happend on monday so i had to call the soap hotline to see what happend that day. I don't think i actually saw all the Tory scenes for that day until Youtube posted Tori's first scenes over a decade later.

It didn't seriously affect my soap watching either because at that I was barely watching any soaps, as I was upset at how far they'd fallen in quality.

Thanks for the list. I had this issue and read it again and again. I may still have it somewhere but it is very badly damaged.

This is probably the peak of SPW in terms of this type of coverage, so informative, and without Mimi Torchin pushing herself to be the center attraction as she sometimes did. I learned a ton about daytime's history from this issue.

Young purist anal me balked a few times (there is an error about Jonathan Frid leaving Dark Shadows - didn't happen!), but overall it was the best.

the OJ trial is like burtn into my memory of soap operas.

MY great grandma watched NBC soaps daily. Like they were her life in the afternoon, and my Grandma with ABC and my Mom with CBS (maybe this is why they didnt get along?). My mom would record them and watch when she got home from work, but GG/Grams watched live in different rooms. And when that Trail was going on they were glued to the TV in a way they were not with soaps. They would each turn the soaps on and clean house, cook, etc. but when this trail was on they sat, and they watched and they gossiped to everyone about it. And after it was over they basically quit soaps and just watched Court TV all day.

sorry for hijacking the thread, lol.

It's a bit strange that Luke and Laura's wedding is considered the most memorable moment, yet it's not even on the list over the most unforgettable weddings. blink.png

You could add the years 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 to this post.... tongue.png

It wasn't a complete year for B&B without Stephanie going at it with Brooke.

At the risk of offending anyone, in the social conscious category, by "exceptional children" are they using a euphenism?

And funny the 1995 GH mob shooting is so high--I don't think I see that on ANY list anymore, but I guess this was made just a few years later (and now every mob shooting on GH has blurred together.)

    • I knew that was the Manhattan skyline in the background
    • I don't remember ANYTHING with Devon and Cliff! I do remember Liza fixated on him (around the time Angel Haining took over the role briefly as Marcy Walker left for Santa Barbara!), but not a thing about Devon. Shows how memorable it was. LOL! I do have a very hazy memory with Devon and...Wally, was it? I think that was his name, Devon's husband! (Mom watched AMC from jump, and wee little me got into it!) But I do remember poor Tricia Pursley just played Devon as a sad sack.
    • Since we need to see Tide placed in the show at least 4 times a week, Derek should be acknowledged as what happens when one accepts the Tide Pod Challenge.
    • No mention of Hope and Carter's Insta romance?   I skimmed through today's episode.   It was a status quo, pointless episode.
    • I agree that the costume designer has done well in giving characters a specific look-I just don't like Kat's! But I will concede defeat on this one... Now that the show is well established I am thinking about some of the choices mad re occupations and settings. I don't expect a soap to be a documentary but the workplace can be fertile ground for story, character interactions and to add a sense of realism. It's getting a little Y&R with people meeting up at eateries. Making Derek a firefighter seems pointless-he should have been a cop working with Jacob.Would have given him more airtime and purpose. Martin is supposedly an up and coming politician but we have no evidence of that. Maybe his office should have been a set-and some other characters work there. Jan could have worked there in some capacity, or maybe Ashley instead of being a nurse. Vernon could spend time there offering his expertise-which could lead to conflict with his grandson. Same with the Real estate business-we don't see Vanessa in that role. She would have more credibilty if we saw her at work. Ashley or Smitty might work there etc, with discussions of the business -listings, attending viewings etc Andre does real estate photography. Maybe Naomi could work for her father and they could have workplace battles. Discussing cases with Tomas and her dad. And we need to see Nicole at work. Finishing up with a client etc And for Chelsea and Kat some actual evidence of setting up the'purse line' Realizing how difficult it is to get a foothold. I like the idea of having a server at Orphey's being a wise 'talk to' for various characters. Just more effective use of the characters... What are your thoughts after several months of shows?
    • Finally, Days is a soap opera about drama. Wednesday's episode is soapy goodness.
    • https://www.vulture.com/2018/06/day-of-compassion-aids-tv-special-history.html In the spring of 1992, One Life to Live sent two of its newest characters on a collision course. The small fictional town of Llanview could be a tough place to be queer, and as rumors began to circulate about young Billy Douglas (Ryan Phillippe, in his first-ever screen role), Reverend Andrew Carpenter (Wortham Krimmer) was a rare sympathetic ear for the teenager. Some Llanview residents eventually opened their minds and put aside their bigotries, though Billy’s father wouldn’t do the same, and the story line culminated in Reverend Carpenter bringing a portion of the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt to Llanview, to which he added a panel for his brother, a gay man who died from AIDS-related complications. Watching from home, a young actor named Neil Tadken was inspired. HIV had been decimating marginalized populations (particularly queer people of color, trans people, and sex workers) for over a decade, but it was still mostly taboo in scripted television. If One Life to Live could bring the AIDS crisis to the airwaves, why couldn’t more shows? And why not all at once? Tadken began writing letters and making phone calls, and a year later, on June 21, 1993, the Day of Compassion was born: a day where AIDS and HIV-related programming could be found on multiple daytime TV shows across multiple channels. This Pride month marks the 25th anniversary of the project. [See the link for the rest. Too long to paste in.]
    • Devon was definitely milquetoast. What was shocking is that the character left the canvas and then the writers decided to bring her back years later. Same actress!
