I don't mind the risk. She was obviously very popular on Hollyoaks, enough to get a spin-off, and her character is only one of Bob's trillion kids. If it doesn't work out, it won't really be a huge loss. Mentioning Katherine Blyton playing her mother made me remember that now Alex Carter is her brother in both shows as well.

I've always loved what I've seen of him. He was underused on Emmerdale by the time I started watching, and his return to Hollyoaks was mired by Marquess' directionless mess (the worst period in the show's history). Him and Ashley Slanina-Davies (Amy Barnes) were a great pairing though. I've fanwanked in my head that they've reunited off-screen, I loved them together that much.

I think Alex Carter would actually do OK if he came over to the US to look for work. He's charming and likeable.

I think Gemma Atkinson will be fine. I think she's on long-term to fill the Sammy Winward/Katie pretty blonde girl slot.

I wouldn't be surprised. I just tend to wonder how many characters he poorly used the first time around (Dean, Jane, now Tanya) he's going to bring back just to poorly use again. We may be ready for Callum Monks by summer, considering how many young men have fled the show.

The announcement that Jo Joyner is returning to the show next month only cements my belief that Max is the killer. His being revealed as the killer would have the biggest impact, wouldn't it? For starters Lauren and Peter's relationship would dissolve and Tanya would then escort Lauren out of Walford in the resulting aftermath. Peter would probably fly off to New Zealand to lick his wounds, giving Ian another reason to travel there yearly as Adam Woodyatt's extensive vacation/panto obligations demand. Abi would go to live with Carol, giving her somebody to fret over and yell at, thus giving Lindsay Coulson something to do again. And what would happen to Max's businesses, which now includes both the car lot and The Arches? Why, he'd leave them to Stacey Slater, of course. I think the only reason Max got initially involved with Emma Dumbbell was to keep her close to him so he'd always know what was going on with her investigation. Once he felt she was getting too close to figuring it out he phoned the police, resulting in her eventual dismissal. And now they've placed Max in what I think is a final showdown with Phil. And which Mr. Potato Head will still be on the show by spring? You do the math.

Eww. I hate Tanya. I was so glad to see her ass depart from the Square. I just hope unlike this cameo does not lead to her returning permanently like Jane. Jane funking up the Square is bad enough. The two of them being on the Square together again....closedeyes.jpg

And I am not surprised if a Branning was the one that offed poor Lucy. I'm sure the crime will be whitewashed and the Brannings will continue to gradually edge the Beales out as the show's central family angry.png.

    • Six minutes into watching today's episode, and there's Joey...... Ugh!!
    • We have to deal with more Tide and Febreeze - that’s really what’s paying the bills for the show, so it’s a necessary evil.
    • It is interesting that Ann lasts as long as she does as a character on the show. I assume the show chose not to renew her contract, but I don't know for certain. I also believe Millette Alexander's contract wasn't renewed after she last appeared at Christmas in 1982. Looking back, I really wish that they had ended up pairing Sara and Mike Bauer versus Sara and Adam. Sara and Mike were already good friends, and it would have been an interesting twist in 1978 if Sara and Mike had a fling after Dean Blackwell's death, Sara turning to Mike for comfort after Dean's death. Mike and Sara certainly could have been a tentpole couple moving forward, unlike Mike and Elizabeth.
    • I wish they’d inject some of Colby’s real life energy, and yes, fashion sense, into Kat.
    • Like I've said before, I think the show is often a very strange (and admittedly fascinating to me) mix of very old-fashioned, purple dialogue and classic soap opera structural elements - right down to the insanely blatant, virally successful product placement for P&G - mixed with other dialogue or material that tries desperately to be current and hip. One moment it will remind me of very hokey old B&B stuff or expository stuff out of the '60s, and the other it'll look and sound like the Prospect Park soaps. Some of the hipper dialogue or material (Chelsea's sexuality, etc.) works for me, others are pure cringe. Same with the classical stuff, like the characters (particularly the elders) gathering around to recap plot, make grand pronouncements about each other or their children/family, or make grave portents of the future. Then there's the whole piano thing lol. It's a weird mix, but not one I'm mad about atm so much as mystified by. As a longtime soap fan it is very compelling to examine even when parts of it really don't work, because so much of BTG feels both very old and very new at the same time. I do think they need to dump the Bell (or maybe more accurately Brad Bell) school of dialogue MVJ has been working from for years, and bring in more of the naturalistic GH house style she and Guza worked from in the '90s and 2000s. If that means dumping a lot of the dialogue people so be it (I do think some are good). OTOH the Bell style seems to work for a lot of the social media and probably offline audience that isn't me, so who's to say. I don't think Dani is at all in the latter-day Carly though. She's not on quite as much, and she's far from always right. I do think they are definitely playing it down the middle with the Duprees while waiting to reveal more, but I do think they want you to see them both ways or divide the audience on who they are. Which seems to have succeeded because some people are baffled.
    • Might this show be a black stereotype? Angry crazy acting women like Dani and Leslie. Cheating punk men like Bill and Ted who didn't keep it in their pants. Angry black men like Martin. Promiscuous black man wanting the white girl. Dirty black cops. And so on?

    • That would require Dani to think about someone/something other than herself.. and we all know Dani only thinks about Dani.  Including her butting into Nicole's business instead of just being a supportive sister.
