GH50: Week of May 20...

It's a plot pointed mess! Everything is to set up what's coming up next with no real meaning as stand alone scenes. But hey, FRon brought back vets. Matters not that they have no stories or are really connection to the canvas - the vets are back. YAY!

I kind of like how on DAYS the younger folks are driving story and the vets are supporting players. It makes it a multi-generational show. I'm sorry but people in their 60s should not be parading around like they are 20,30, & 40 years old. DAYS is atleast setting the show up for the future by telling stories to get us invested in these younger characters. I'm invested in the Will story. GH isn't doing that. You can't rely on the vets forever. You can't count on them to come back and help stop the bleeding ratings. They won't be around forever. So I think GH needs to work on setting itself up for the future like DAYS has been doing. I may be over exaggerating here but GH this past month has reminded me of Guiding Light & Passions final years/months. A old wounded show that is limping along waiting to bite the dust. For me its seriously that bad. I wish right now ABC would either get a new regime, or dump the show so Prospect Park can scoop it up.

Today's episode, air May 20, directed by William Ludel, Script by Passanante/Hall should be the submitted episode for writing, directing, production, actor: Geary; actress Elliot support actor: Morgan actor (come to me baby). What an amazing episode. Cartini are brilliant.

Well, I have to give it to Passanante/Hall for Tracy's scenes alone. Jane Eliot KILLED it and finally told Luke what we've all been wondering about why the hell she'd ever take his brokedown ass back. The dialogue was decent, too. Tracy saying "I'm sick of making a meal out of crumbs" -- I got chills from JE's delivery.

The Laura/Scotty wedding though? For the birds. At least this episode didn't have Britt/Sabrina or relish in it because I just can't with that mess.

JE rocked the hell out of those scenes! But of course, the Empowerment Of Women will last only one day as it is just a matter of time before FRon degrades the rest of them. My only problem is those scenes only seved TG's exit. I would like to have seen some self reflection from Luke. He runs to Tracy after the LL coffin is nailed shut after getting boozed up? Tracy nailed him, but now we don't get Luke until TG feels like returning? May as well not give me something that good (all JE, of course) if nothing comes after it.

Sigh. Who else can we get for Anna?

I actually think that Bambi and Massive Jaw look *amazing* in that last Twitter pic. Best they have ever looked, ever. Their eyes! If they looked like that on the show, I might actually watch all that yipping and neighing and arf-arfing that passes for foreplay between Michael and Starr Fifi the Show Pony.

Well Duke of course! ;) I love me my Duke and Anna (though not necessarily the sleepy writing for them on the show right now).

They just need to stick TG's ass on recurring. Since this show has become one giant, recurring, Special Guest Star-fest. TG should be right at home with the other vets who come and go on a recurring basis. Some of them are almost as old as he is! Give or take 10 years.

    • I forget that throughout the 80’s the TV seasons were officially over in April. Not sure why that was the case but it wasn’t until the mid-90’s that May Sweeps became a real official thing.
    • Jon Lindstrom proved with Ryan Chamberlain on GH that he can play menacing and evil. He's not doing it here, and I think it's a combination of writing and performance.   To be fair, Longoria has modeled and has represented major companies like L'Oreal, but she was never a runway model. I don't have any problem with seeing Dani as a runway model. I think it's more than possible, and I don't understand anyone criticizing her look. I actually have a bigger problem with the whole "Anita is an EGOT" thing. I think it goes way too far. Give her a Grammy. Say she was nominated for a Tony, or even won. But an EGOT winner? No.   The fact that you're using DAYS to defend a BTG set is telling, since we all know DAYS is poverty level soapdom. I expect so much more and better from Gates.     I can't help it, but I'm LOL at the people defending that backroom bingo hall casino and making excuses for it. It's hilariously bad.
    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
