That pretty much sums it up for me. As I told a friend, I knew they had a fanbase since '21 so I thought it could work for some people (not me!), but I was very skeptical from the beginning because I think Britt has always been a marginal, niche character only some of the audience likes, who moreover is played by a weak actress. She is just not in Steve's league when he actually sells a couple, and this is a man who has spent the better part of 25 years phoning it in and staring into space whenever he's bored lol. But all his other love interests could sell pathos, depth, longing, etc. even when Burton was not giving a lot physically. KT is the first who couldn't connect emotionally or carry her share of the weight. Even Alicia Leigh Willis could do that.
And then as you say, they really didn't even bother to write much for it here. Jason just chased after her for months giving her break after break and doing her favors while she acted awful, as CVE or Frank seemingly obsessed over cementing Britt and Rocco's bond or bedding in Ryan Paevey instead. It was like Van Etten finally got the chance to bring back one of his (apparent) favorite characters and kiki out over the wacky Obrecht family and was determined to make it stick and make everyone love them, but he didn't actually get around to writing a remotely believable love story. And God knows KT couldn't sell it on her own, and obviously Steve lost interest. Because tbh they gave him nothing to do for almost a year. Jason was subservient to her story, just hanging around.
When he finally told Britt last week he didn't believe she'd have ever helped Anna, I do think he seemed relieved at the end when she called it and walked out. Because I think he'd been working up to that moment since coming back and then finding out about Joss. He even told her after that reveal that it had to be the last time she'd lied, and of course it wasn't because of Anna. I think in-story, even before the Anna showdown Jason had clearly begun to realize he just plain couldn't trust Britt and never would. I just wish I understood how and why he seemingly fell for her to begin with. I've begun to think it was just a rebound from splitting with Sam.
