Members Vee
I thought that was just plywood/bamboo. Or do you mean the green boards?
Members Mr. Vixen
Well, both. But I was referring to the bamboo. I thought it was cheap wallpaper LOL! Either way, it's bad.
Members Vee
I have no clue what it really is, but it looks awful.

Members jfung79
Well any shot of "outside" from inside is going to look like a set ... The pictures in this thread of the outside street for the new AMC/OLTL certainly don't look outside either. Also real-life buildings actually look worse on TV than a set. For some reason there is a language of TV that walls are supposed to look really sturdy and rooms really plush and such, but real people's homes in actuality would probably look cheaper. For example, when someone posted that the lavish country club where the AMC/OLTL photo shoot was, looked like a bad set, that just tells you that real life opulence would not translate to the screen. The sets didn't help GL at the end, but the real issues to me with Peapack were the executive decision to go with "slice of life" writing for too long instead of real drama and conflict, not having good music, and having to work out lighting and sound problems. I also have much less of an issue with the hospital set than other people. I was able to focus on the drama with Phillip in the clip posted above. The set didn't detract from that for me. Having said all that, I do like the idea of some standing outdoor sets like they have for EastEnders. Sets can help. But something like that would probably cost a lot of money. Just random outdoor location shooting would probably not look good though, without a standing set like that. Real life settings, unless in a bustling city or some scenic overseas shoot. would probably look cheap on the kinds of cameras any soap would have to use. Members SFK
I've said this before, but Peapack's production model could have been pulled off masterfully in the right hands. An EP with exceptional taste like Linda Gottlieb would have made the most of those CBS studio office sets. The right person can spin [!@#$%^&*] into shinola. Members Chris B
Another Peapack problem is that they created so many indoor sets that they were all too small for the most part. They didn't need a fricking grocery store for example. What they did was very fan fiction in execution. I know all this GL talk might be tiresome, but I feel it's relevant since we might get a similar model with these new soaps. Of course executed much better, but still. Members KMan101
I think it is relevant. I wish that model had succeded. Wheeler just wasnt experienced enough. The lack of plotlines probably hurt quite a bit. I go back and forth on CBS giving it a chance and hanging it out to dry and die.

Members KMan101
I just wish P&G/Telenext or whoever the hell they are now would sell their soaps. They clearly don't care when a lot of others do. I'm not saying "resurrect every soap! omg!" but lately I've kinda just been missing GL and ATWT had all of the potential sucked out of it. I was watching my DVD's and there was just such life in that show that I never saw over the last few years. Sorry for getting a bit off-topic ... Members Chris B
If this is a big enough success, I think the next soap whether it be by P&G or PP, it needs to be completely different. I would say something like Edge of Night, which could attract a completely different audience if done in the CSI/Law and Order style with some grit or something like 24/Scandal/Capitol or something like Dark Shadows or Port Charles. AMC & OLTL have the familiar element, but next I'd like to see something truly bold and unique.
Members KMan101
I think EON, Dark Shadows, and Capitol are great concepts that would really work now, considering the TV landscape.
