AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

For the most part, I am honestly not that worried. The actors have vouched for them and the air shows they've written are all very good. I have every reason to believe they'll do well, but with both new sets of HWs at both shows I have some lingering concerns. I worry about AMC backsliding into that stuff with writers who have been there a long time - where McPherson and Snyder, to my knowledge, had not been - and I worry about OLTL going a little too late-stage 90210 under Klein. I worry, but I don't worry that much right now since I've seen their day-to-day shows. I just wanted to voice it. Possibly because I am on cold medicine.

Perish the thought of late-stage 90210! I think what you said is exactly right though- we've already seen their work in the air shows & its been solid. So I'll judge them on their most recent product because if I start thinking of AMC backsliding into its dark ages and OLTL being late college Peach Pit After Dark, I will need Xanax before their work even starts airing

I really believe it might have been planned all along get bigger name HWs for the launch and to help with some long story before handing off to these likely cheaper new writers who seem to have been very involved in story all along. Just my speculation though so it could be entirely wrong. But I really (maybe naively) believe that viewers who have been enjoying these shows all along will continue to and hopefully the only major changes will be some tighter pacing.

The truth is that no writers who have been in the game a long time are completely pristine or spotless. That is the nature of the work and the grind and whether you've been working in the daytime grind or in the primetime soaps, which are a whole mess of other egos and big names and so on, there are going to be all sorts of mitigating factors and issues. Good writers come out of there all the time and go on to do far more evolved things when they may have started out in the dog years of MP or even Models Inc. I'm pretty sure one of the showrunners at Homeland started out at the Spelling soaps, in fact.

So I tend not to judge any of them too harshly based on the past - I care about what they do now. And I have just as many great memories of watching 90210 and MP as I do bad.

That is a new one on me.

I could've sworn Hayes and some other Spelling folks came aboard at ABCD with Pratt at GH and some stayed on, floated around. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

As for the writing change, the only person I can recall who's commented on it directly is Cady McClain.

You might be thinking of Frank South, who was another Melrose Place writer/producer. He wrote for GH for a bit under Pratt.

If anyone is interested this is Hayes' resume, which shows the Port Charles stint. He was also an ABC programming exec in the 80s.

It irritates me that Ginger Smith was hired instead of Cruthers. I am sure Ginger felt mad when Curthers was hired considering she was there longer.

What in the living hell are you talking about?

None of this has a basis in the facts. There are no "powerful focus groups" that control this show, there is only the occasional reaction to audience feedback. There is no "time limit" to "get the show on track" because to most viewers, other than you, the show is already on track.

You have been bound and determined to make us believe this show is in crisis because it dares to tell a story where Angie and Jesse might be pulled apart. You are certainly within your rights to dislike that story and be vocal about it. But there is no call to pretend the entire show is in jeopardy and make up all sorts of nonsense to try and back it up to suggest that unless the show "shapes up" regarding your couple and other MIA couples, that it and its EP are in serious danger. Because it's not. At all.

.

Wrong again. I don't make up anything. Sorry you don't' agree.

Rylee and Zendall's "huge" legion of fans couldn't save AMC the first time around. They - and the senseless, mindless catering to them - helped drive AMC tinto the ground and off the air. Rylee and Zendall are two of the biggest and brightest examples of Frons' toxic influence and the farther and longer PP can keep them away from this show the better.

You must not be a Zendall or Rylee fan.

Yes, you did.

Point me to the "legions" of fans or the "clock" where Ginger Smith must satiate the old fanbases or be fired. It doesn't exist, Linda.

I think Ryan and Greenlee worked as individual characters.. but not as a couple. Both of them plus Zach/Kendall were on non-stop to the point where Alicia Minslew threatened to leave when she was about to get married unless she had at least 3 to 4 months off because of how hard the show was working her.. hence why Kendall was in a coma.

Plus, fan focus groups are one of the many reasons soap are dying one by one. I guess I have to be more vocal, but then I have a full time job and a semi active social life.. so I don't have time to be vocal. I figure if Ryan/Greenlee come back, I'll just fast forward their scenes thus freeing up several minutes of each episode.

I'm guessing that when Ginger meant other characters were coming back that weren't available she might mean Susan Lucci, Alicia Minslew, and Eden R. Miranda needs the kane women in her life cause I'm sick of seeing the same scene with her and AJ.. plus I'd much prefer AJ and MIranda not hook up.. I kind of like him with Celia's friend myself.

Even though OLTL is my favorite, I live for the AMC threads- you really never know what you're going to get. Black-Agnes, imaginary clocks, demands for Brooke & Adam love scenes, allegations that Rylee fans who are not Brian Frons exist...I love it here

Ryan & Greenlee were popular in their original incarnations- b*tchy schemer who had a vulnerable side & roguish con man who came from nothing seeking the good life. Both had a hugely popular pairing. And Ryan & Kendall also worked for a time. But Rylee did not work as this against all odds hero and his true love. At all. I dont think they'll be back- maybe Cam for a visit- but Ginger Smith said she hasn't spoke to RB at all and it sounded like reference will be made to them but there are no plans.

I like AJ & Heather too!

We can reboot Edge of Night with those kind of stories right there.

It seems like some focus groups won't be happy until there is an episode-long scene of Jessie goin' down on Angie like only an Emmy Award winner and role model can.
