I know lots of you hate Ehlers(I am neutral myself) but she would have been a decent Liza IMO. Beth Chamberlin would also be decent I think. I like Jamie Luner and she was fine as Liza in that she was a good actor, but I still would prefer someone who at least has the look of a little older person.

I don't hate Ehlers, but I don't think she would have made a good Liza. Ehlers was at her absolute best playing GL's Harley, a working-class type who probably would have knifed privileged girls like Liza in the girls' restroom in high school for flirting with their guy.

I grew to like Jamie in the role a lot, and Marcy is never, ever coming back. But I don't think the show needs her just yet - Liza was pretty much just dangling in limbo again by the end. Unless there is a specific purpose for a specific story, I'd keep her out of town or offscreen.

Ehlers was too cold and hard to be Liza. She also could have cut someone with her elbow.

You're right, she isn't. Jesus has her now. That is why I'm good with Liza being gone permanently.

I always thought she'd be a horrible Liza too. I thought she'd have been better suited for Hayley at that time

It's hard to think for which role Beth Ehlers might have been better suited (barring, of course, outright creating a new character for her), but I don't think Hayley would have fit the bill either.

I didn't love JL as Liza; and quite frankly, all this talk of recasting her is foolishness. Marcy Walker was, is, and always will be Liza Colby. If she isn't interested in returning, then just leave her character be.

She's made it quite clear she will never act again (I think she's too busy with her ministry or whatever.) Of course that can always change, but...

AFAIC, the camel's back is broken, and so is his neck and everything else. I hope these shows fail, creatively and financially. And I hope their failure reduces Miss So-Called Queen of the Soaps to a mass of WASP-y blubber. She, and the rest of daytime, deserve nothing less.

You're a real joy to be around. mellow.png

So because you have not succeeded in your dream of writing for a daytime drama, you hope it all fails? Wow. Selfish much?

Liza's whole thing was being cold and hard. Moving her too far away from that (ie becoming Adam's latest victim/wife) ruined the character. But Ehler's was a different type of cold, a worn down, defeated "I'm a mother of 6 during the Great Depression" type of cold.

Luner was too typical soap vixen. Liza didn't need to be "sexy" to command a room.

I've apologized already for my comments.

Professional writing has always been about who you know at least as much as how hard you work. That's not some new development. It's just the way the game works and it is not some unspeakable sin.

That is the way LIFE works. It's not just writing or acting, it's everything.

And yes, luck and timing means a lot too. There are plenty of actresses who probably think they're just as talented if not more talented than Susan Lucci, but she ended up being the face of daytime, not them. The internet is full of bitter writers who could write something far more compelling than "Twilight" but they're not raking in the $$ Stephenie Meyer did. It happens. But wishing for everyone else to fail because your dream hasn't come true is pretty immature.
