HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

I don't know if anyone but McTavish even knew how to write for Kendall.

I have to disagree with that. There was a year and a half before McTavish came back that the character was written well. The character got caught up in the couple-trap that usually wrecks havoc on characters. I feel like most of the female characters were defanged after McTavish's exit. The feel of AMC changed. I always knew when I turned on to AMC, I'd see rather strong women (no matter their nature) and that changed a lot after McTavish's exit.

The more I hear about AMC, the less interested I am. You have people like Alicia Minshew and Eden Riegel, who are both mediocre actresses, and they aren't willing to commit, yet the show is working with them. There is no Erica Kane and that family is already small. Kendall and Bianca are popular and should be on full-time. There are MANY successful soap actresses who could play Kendall and I'm sure the Bianca recast (or even Lacey Chabert) would agree to play Bianca full-time. Miranda is not enough for a proper Kane presence IMO.
Exactly.

I believe Richard Cullton was HW when Kendall was first brought back. I agree that she was written well back then (at least much better than later).

if I also recall correctly, Culliton was part of AMC's writing team in the '90s when Kendall was introduced, so he knew the character well.

If your name isn't Erica, there is no Kane presence on this show. I only tolerate those heifers because of their mother.

Y'all Erica stans are like Beyonce stans. Ego, ego, ego. :b

These are Richard's AMC credits. That doesn't give him a large window of writing for the character beforehand - 6 to 8 months tops. It's not like Kendall (1 or 2) was a difficult character to write with the mother issues - you'd have to be really awful at writing to have not written her interesting with those particular issues.

Sigh... I loved RC's writing! The dialog under him was rich and smart! Too bad we had an idiot like Kendall spewing it out at times!

Maybe I heard incorrectly or maybe Frances Heflin choked on her line, but I swear I remember hearing her call Erica "Rica" (somewhere between "Rikka" and "Reeka") in one of those old kinescopes. I wondered if that was something she called her often, but at any rate, "Grammy 'Rica" would be cute.

Mona DID call Erica "Rica" during the early years of the show! I'm not sure at what point it was dropped. I have a couple of books that rehash AMC's early years in romance-novel style, ending at the beginning of Erica's relationship with Nick Davis, and Mona calls her Rica in all of them.

I wonder if they'd initially planned to hint at some ethnicity in the character.

Yeah, I thought it was cute and I even used it in real life with my Rrika, but I was never sure if I was just hearing things when Mona said it. Thanks for clarifying ellabelle!
