School shooting in Connecticut

I can't imagine dropping my child off at school and then getting a call asking me "is there anyone there with you right now" or having police approach me with a certain look. This is madness, and as much as we want to blame guns for this, I want to know the mental history of the shooter(s).

They haven't been since 1999

A junior high school had a shooting in Jonesboro, AR in 1998, almost a year to the month (maybe even the day) before Columbine. My family's from the opposite side of the state, so that one sticks out almost as much to me (maybe even a bit more) than Columbine does.

There have been attacks and mass murders in schools and day care places for a long time - the one which got the most attention for a while was Dunblane.

Columbine was romanticized by many in the media, complete with arthouse films about a day in the life of those who shoot up their school. That glorification is something which just keeps building.

Maybe now it will finally stop.

My nieces live in CT, about 20 miles from Newtown. The youngest is seven and she's so excited for Christmas that she practically vibrates at the sight of a tree. I just keep thinking what it would've been like if she'd been in that school. I keep thinking about the parents and siblings and friends who were getting ready for the holidays and now they've been thrown into hell.

It's being reported that the shooter's mother worked at the school and she was shot as well.

It looks as if he killed his father and went to the school after his mother. Details developing...

Please don't post his name, it just gives more attention to him, when attention should be on the victims.

Sorry but I hate that media outlets make people like this infamous

OMG really, was posting a pic necessary

Plus I read that it's not him, the guy posted saying it's not him

Has anyone else seen the picture of the students leaving the school in a line, their hands on each other's backs? They didn't even have their jackets on :( .

Yeah it was more important to get them out safely, but what if there had been another shooter outside somewhere waiting to shoot anyone who came out of the building, that scares me, glad those sweet babies are safe

Even if it were below zero, there would be no time to gather any personal effects. They'd go out barefoot if need be.

Oh I know, it was just pointed out on the news in particular when they showed it. Obviously something like that didn't matter there.

+1. This whole thing is just too tragic for words :( .
