Since P&G fired Henry Slesar and being that Lee Sheldon took over the show who would have been a better choice to write EON?

2) If TPTB kept EON on past 84 and instead of cancelling it and got a new head writer who would have been a good choice after Lee Sheldon?

EON was a mystery theme soap. Could any soap writer write for it?

Too many great characters (Martha, Liz, Vic, Jim, Steve, Draper, Bill, Cookie, Ron) disappeared during this time as producer. Also, the show looked somewhat dated. I blame the producer for that.

His time at Search for Tomorrow, by the way, was quite short!

"Who Killed Carolyn Crawford?" was, at the start, a tight story. It's only when Marland changed his mind about the culprit's identity -- a rarity, according to Julie Poll -- that it became a mess.

Erwin Nicholson stayed at Edge for years while other P&G soaps changed producers often.

I am always puzzled by this.Despite falling ratings, change of network and timeslots, Nicholson was there to the end.I can understand Slesar staying as Edge was a specialized soap to write but as for Nicholson - maybe he knew where the bodies were buried!!

Speaking of Edge writers,Slesar's co writer Grace Garment created an Edge like mystery when she vanished in December of 76 and was missing for 6 weeks.Apparently appeals for her to contact her family were broadcast during an Edge episode in the hopes she might be watching..Her body was eventually found in a hotel room. She had suicided.

Another person who would have been a good candidate to successfully write The Edge of Night is director/writer/producer Don Wallace.

Among his earlier acheivements in soap opera are:

director, The Edge of Night

later, producer of The Edge of Night

producer, From These Roots

writer, Love of Life

executive producer, The Best of Everything

executive producer, Return to Peyton Place

writer, One Life to Live

writer, Loving

He was the original director of The Edge of Night and innovator of the location shoot. Having worked there in the beginning means (to me) that he understood the show and its specialness.

    • Trying on the jacket was really dumb. Kat screwed up. Whatever Anita did has to have been really terrible because she looked scared when Sharon brought it up. And Sharon mentioned Vernon twice during the conversation so it's got to be something that he'd be disappointed about.
    • Yes today had some great stuff !!!! Yes and Colby and Trisha are proving to be quite the dynamic duo as well.
    • Wow. Sometimes you say the perfect thing & at the best time! Take a bow.
    • How much longer are Sharon and Tracy actually going to be around? I really hope we find out what Anita's secret is especially if they're going to be gone soon. I'm going to be really annoyed if we wait months on end to find out what it is. We still don't know what Martin's secret is even though it's been nearly 6 months. I can't help but think that maybe Anita might've had a hand in sabotaging or even destroying some people's reputations and careers, as Sharon had alluded to. Whatever her secret is, I don't think it's necessary murder, but it has to be really bad enough that Anita's terrified of it coming out and ruining her life. Maybe she got involved in some serious scandal that could've ruined her career but she somehow managed to keep it under wraps.  Also, are we ever going to get back to the corrupt partner storyline with Jacob or has that been officially dropped? I totally forgot about that until now. I won't be surprised if TPTB decided to drop it at some point.

The only humor I found was the ongoing snipping between Hope and Ciara.  After the heck that Hope put Julie through as an adolescent, it seems like justice has been served that there is rarely a moment of peace between this mother and daughter. I take back everything I thought about faux-John in the bed.  Marlena needed someone in the room today for that to work.  It would have been odd if she was alone in her bedroom, or he was dead in the bed next to her.  It is a powerful thing to say that her life didn't really begin until she found John.  We know she loved Don and Roman, but this was special and unique. I always wonder how writers choose a name for a character.  Here's Marlena: No wonder her sister Samantha went insane, she knew Marlena was the one her parents wished for. To distract from the story, I started wondering how often Hope and Marlena were on the show at the same time.? I know they shared stories, but it seems like Hope ascended during Marlena's absence, and Marlena re-appeared while Hope was not in Salem.  I also wondered how many more episodes Marlena appeared with John, than Don or Roman? Her on-screen marriage to Roman was relatively short.  But, there were a lot of breaks from the show during her marriage to John.  And she and Don were together for at least a few years.
    • It's an equal mix of feeling tortured and superior being a day ahead. Ya'll are getting a pretty good one tomorrow. It puts some things into perspective.
    • I'm sure, with it being warmer in Atlanta, they'll utilise the Assembly grounds more (they've already shown cast on set being outside).
    • I never thought Days would be the soap that I look forward to each day and have it take me on an emotional roller coaster.   Proving that good writing will bring fans back.
    • You made some valid points about Dani. Her human side is what I am the most interested in learning about her. I wanna get to know Danielle...
