Steven Moffat is allegedly confirmed to continue for Series 10 in 2017.

The show continues to be on what is being called "a five year plan," with no end in sight til at least 2020. Last year's Sony leak indicated that BBC Worldwide was pushing Moffat and BBC UK to greenlight a feature film, but backed off when met with resistance.

IIRC, the Sony leak indicated an "eight year plan" leading to a film series, but as we've been hearing these rumblings for years it's anyone's guess whether Worldwide will ever be able to penetrate the firewall with the showrunners and get it done. I personally do not think it would work, and I would rather DW stay on broadcast until at least 2025 - making another 20 straight years without interruption for film or cancellation. But honestly, even this 15-year guarantee is more than I could have hoped for as a little kid who was stuck with PBS airings and the old videos.

Although the BBC has recently publicly affirmed its commitment to a five-year extension of any and all DW on TV, there is now a rumor floating around that the show may take next year off in some way, shape or form, possibly due to Moffat's commitment to a new series of Sherlock. They also allege that Moffat is under pressure to step down entirely, which I have my doubts about - I have a feeling he might have been ready to leave after this year anyway.

I would not be surprised if there is a series of specials to off-set a break, and then a return with Series 10 in 2017. But I have no idea. I also have my doubts about this rumor, as Private Eye tends to often only get their stories half-right. We've been here before with these kind of hysterics and they don't often pan out as alleged. I blame the British press.

That publication broke the news that Matt Smith was leaving before it became common knowledge. That's the only reason anyone is giving it any sort of possible credence. We'll all find out eventually though it is doubtful the news will leak before this series has aired.

New trailer.

There is a rumor sweeping around this week claiming Mark Gatiss may be taking over as showrunner, at least for the rumored 'gap year' due to the Sherlock schedule, and that it may be announced on Friday. I personally doubt it, but who knows.

I enjoyed it but I agree with TomandLorenzo on this point...

I felt zero sense of dramatic tension because, of course, The Doctor isn't going to die. Neither is Clara. Neither is Missy.

I liked seeing Clara as a functional human even if she is a bit of a Mary Sue and Missy's take on her relationship with The Doctor was intriguing but it all felt so...BTDT.

    • The fact that there's so little action in the Y&R threads whereas I can barely keep up with the Beyond the Gates threads says a lot right there.

    • I think Dani cares about her sister, but I agree with you. She's using this whole mess to be heard and make herself feel better. I wish Ted and Eva told her to fck off. I had to laugh when Dani commented on her and Anita confronting Ted. She acted as if they destroyed him. That's not what I saw. Dani has been dialed back from those first weeks, but I can't say she's likable. As long as she's throwing shade at Eva for her work as a hairstylist -- while ignoring that she did nothing except eat celery sticks and walk the runway -- she can kiss off. Barely tolerable, and Lindstrom is terrible in the role. I don't find him scary at all, and his money laundering plan is stupid as hell. I gagged when he texted Vanessa to ask if she was thinking about him. That's throw up time.   I just don't see how that makes Ashley any more interesting. And are we really asking for another storyline where a father connects with his adult daughter? I know there's no direct parallel to Eva's story, but come on. If you're in the minority, I'll join you. I have zero interest in any of that. -- I still fail to see Nicole and Vanessa as best friends. Nicole is grounded and stable and responsible, and Vanessa is not. It made more sense to have Dani and Vanessa being close. -- Ashley and Derek were actually OK today. I feel sorry for the actors, honestly, because they've been given nothing. It's crazy, because so much of the rest of the show is firing on all cylinders.
    • Same. But given how the writers like to have her have good moments and bad moments...and Dani has been background as of late...it's about time she had some bad moments.
    • I don’t even know why you responded to the bait.
    • I only watch for Sharon and she’s barely on. The only good thing going at the moment is Jack and Diane scenes and they’ve made Diane such a wuss lately which is making that unbearable to watch too
    • I feel like Earl Hamner and his crew brought in Richard* BECAUSE they knew almost right away that Robert Foxworth was so dull as Chase.  At any event, Richard, IMO, proved to be much more interesting as Angela's chief adversary. (*Or brought him back, depending on whether we're including the original "Vintage Years" pilot).
