I LOVE the Matlock theme!  I once quipped on Facebook that it's the music you hear in your head as you strut down the street after a great audition.

I have done a Mama's Family/Matlock mashup in my head, wish I knew how to edit.

The theme for Jackie Collins' Hollywood Wives encapsulates Los Angeles in the 1980s - all those stores on Rodeo Drive (Bijan, Fred, the old Ralph Lauren Polo - those scream 1980s to me), the smorgasbord of 1980s actors, all those status symbols (the Petrossian caviar, the Dom Perignon champagne), this opening has it all and then some:

And the seriously underappreciated Laura Branigan...what a voice...gone too soon.

So we have a post-TC Suzanne Somers, post-H2H Stefanie Powers and a post-Dallas Mary Crosby with a pre-Silence Anthony Hopkins, pre-Unsolved Mysteries Stack and a pre-Murphy Brown Candice Bergen. What an odd moment in all of their careers!

And I can't get over how LONG this is. You would never find a theme song running this long nowadays.

I didn't realize until just now that Stack wore a piece.  I mean, Steiger, duh, but I guess watching Unsolved Mysteries between my fingers I never noticed.

That Suzanne Somers shot is begging to become a gif.

I wanna go back and count all the Rollers they managed to cram into these opening titles.

The Hollywood Wives theme/opening brings back good memories for me, and I wasn't even alive when it originally aired. The first time I watched the miniseries had to be 2002 or 2003 when WE regularly aired those great 80s miniseries. Imagine a little 12-year-old black boy in south Louisiana watching this alone on a Saturday afternoon, not the most popular kid in school, often picked on for not being manly enough, etc. That escapist fantasy meant so much to me. Everyone else was escaping into Harry Potter and anime, yet here I was living in a world of 70s and 80s glamour and excess. I wouldn't trade a single second of it.

Here are some others that used to rerun regularly during that time (aside from the aforementioned Lace and Lace II):

Sins starring Joan Collins, with theme "It's Hard to Be Tender" by Carly Simon. The song is quite sad, honestly, but so beautiful.

Scruples starring Lindsay Wagner.

Pretty angry that I can't find the opening to Bare Essence anywhere.

All of those "elderly crime shows" had perfect strut music. Jake and the Fatman, never saw an episode in my life, but I love this big, grandiose theme. It's just so ridiculous. I would've killed to have played trumpet on this.

My favorite part is the "action shot" of that huge slow-moving Lincoln Continental limousine just sliding on down the street.

Same.  For years, I would sing the theme ("I told my heart stay away/it isn't safe to feel this way") and wish someone would upload it on YT.  The closest I've come in my search, though, has been this amateur instrumental performance:

Gosh, I miss those '80's miniseries so damn much.  They were from a period of time when the people who made them weren't afraid of telling stories that were romantic; and by "romantic," I'm not talking the hearts-and-flowers stuff, but unrestrained, unfiltered emotions, without irony or detachment.

Not a fan of westerns, per se, but do love this theme:

IMO, FALCON CREST should have followed the lead of this and other shows and put Jane Wyman last in the opening credits ("And Starring Miss Jane Wyman as Angela Channing").  To me, that's how treat a Hollywood legend.

(Casualty’s spin-off show, but now often seen as the superior of the 2 and now has the curious distinction of having retained its original theme tune since its inception in 1999, longer than Casualty before it altered in 2001, 15 years after that show began)

    • What Dan Curtis never seemed to understand -- and what Art Wallace knew from the get-go -- is that a slow, suspenseful build-up creates a far more satisfying episode than the constant "cliffhangers" that never amounted to much.  ("I'm going to kiillll you, Julia!" before every commercial break, lol.)

    • Watch and form your own point of view; even in its flaws, this soap is soaping.
    • The show is excellent in my opinion.  There are a couple of less-than-stellar actors and a couple of bad storylines, but otherwise it's awesome and I watch many of the episodes twice.  However, episode #55 from May 19 was really bad, which is where you popped into the thread, but it was the *first* really bad episode.  So 54 great episodes out of a total of 55 episodes is pretty good, in my opinion!  I haven't seen today (#56) yet, but I hear it's good.  Will watch in a couple of hours.
    • LOL!  Yes, very much so.  Better episode today than yesterday. TMG really is a gift.
    • Hopeful that Tracy can prove her innocence

    • I remember this being in the soap press at the time, they were going to be focused on rebuilding the Bauers, Reardons and Spauldings..and we saw they kind of just created a new Reardon (Chelsea when Nola was always supposed to be the youngest) a new Bauer with an offshoot of the main family,(Johnny) so I am sure they were going to do the same with Alan. New writers may have changed all that..(Long later brought  back Amanda for the Christmas episodes...leading into Alex/Phillip dethroning Alan.) I thought Poser should play an different character then Amanda...maybe an adopted daughter. We know Alan had a woman who he lived with in San Rios, they could have had her die and to pay her back for saving his life he adopts her daughter and trains her in all the ways to be a Spaulding. He pays a debt and he has a secret weapon to unleash on the family when he needed to so he keeps in his back pocket.

date: Tuesday, May 20 | Ron Carlivati, Cheryl L. Davis | Shelley Curtis Pack up your crap, Derek. And take that hideous chair with you, but don't throw out the food! We know you have a particular habit of doing that. Anita being nervous about Tracey's arrival is cute, and I love that Vernon joined her. I'm just hoping Sharon will join them soon. Tomas and Eva keep getting ... teased! I appreciate him filling her in on what happened with Dana and Katherine. Dana, what in the world are you working at?! If I saw you with your evil smiles in my hospital room as I woke up, I'd be questioning what nightmare I was existing within. I appreciate the continued evolution of Tomas' backstory and where he's come from. It sounds familiar to what I've heard from others, so it's nice that true history can be nodded to. Derek, there is no way in Hell Jacob and/or Naomi want your stank-gross behind crashing on their couch. Katherine better be careful; she keeps intercepting Dana at all of these places, and if she is not careful, she may become the primary target of her plans. Dante Greene? Is he the Barry Gordy Jnr of the story? I appreciate that Tracy has some genuine feelings towards Anita and their past history. But I appreciate that she is at least open-minded to reuniting with Anita on a personal basis; it'll be interesting to see how Sharon reacts when she arrives (I am guessing). Not the wig washing. Dana's personalities and wigs must be an ongoing gag. But good on Eva for calling her out about being falsely accused of running Laura off of the road. I've said it once, and I will say it again: Katherine should be a detective, because her instincts are sharper than sharp. Notes: Can we stop having the male actors on this show sitting on tables? It's such a pet peeve of mine. Like, chairs exist for your backside to sit on, not tables where we EAT! The top they have Tamara Tunie (Anita) in would annoy the frick out of me if that flower kept hitting me in my chin. I'd be pulling that crap off immediately.
