Port Charles: Was it truly one of the worst spin offs ever?

I never thought they knew what the hell to do with this show, especially in the beginning.

The show never had anything resembling a consistent identity over time, so in my mind, it was crap. It was so bad they had to deviate from its original premise to tell crappy supernatural telenovella arcs, and not many stilled cared enough to tune it.

GH, whether you liked it or not, at least had an identity.

I also don't consider garden variety hacks like Lynn Marie Latham, Scott Hamner, and Brown & Esensten to have much, if any, actual talent.

The affiliates might have been an issue, but it's not even comparable to Passions - which eventually surpassed it on every level (demos and years on the air).

PC had an identity. It was a hospital based drama for the first 3-4 years of its run and the final 2 it morphed into one centered aroung supernatural elements

I loved PC if it would had came successful OLTL or AMC probably would have gotten a spinoff too

GH had several spinoffs so I doubt OLTL or AMC would've gotten one had PC been sucessful. And Nixon had two similar soaps in addition to AMC and OLTL.

I always wanted a spinoff for One Life To Live. One a little bit like the edge of night with some mystery.

Port Charles-- before the telenovela story arcs--- was, in my opinion, a generic basic soap opera. Just like Loving. No distinct qualities, characters or characteristics that really truly stood out in the grand scheme of daytime soap opera. It was just there. I'd put Generations in this same category. JMO. Perhaps if all these shows had had more time (except Loving, 12 years was plenty of time) or PC had begun airing a decade earlier before the dramatic ratings decline of the late 90's, it would've had a chance to make a true identify for itself.

I also feel that PC could have been much more successful had it been on right before GH. They should have moved AMC & OLTL each up a half hour and then put PC between OLTL and GH.

This show sucked and ABC only went with it because it was cheaper than the Labine's soap. The Labine soap would have been produced in NYC and PC was produced in LA.

ABC has never had a successful soap in the 12:30 time slot with the brief exception of Ryan's Hope.

IMO, PC's original EP, Wendy Riche, appeared to be more preoccupied with GH, which spelled trouble from the start for this spinoff. As good as Riche was as a showrunner, PC needed a strong EP of its own (such as Shelley Curtis?) to launch the series and then move it in the proper direction.

So those soaps could've fell faster?

Actually, timeslot-wise, I felt PC would have been much more successful had it aired after GH.
