Members Y&RWorldTurner
I'm guessing JFP's first day on set is tomorrow. I would love to be a fly on the wall at Television City tomorrow.... How many weeks in advance does Y&R write and tape these days? I'm guessing JFP and Griffith won't be in the credits until mid/late September sometime. Assuming no rewrites are taking place, JFP will probably have to produce some of Maria and her team's work. I know JFP is VERY into looking at breakdowns and providing her notes to writers and directors about how they should be realized on-screen. Not all EP's do this, but they should. Harding Lemay once said this about her: http://iriswheeler.t...online1997.html Also, finally, there will be a separation of powers at Y&R, which hasn't been the case for a extended period of time since David Shaughnessy left. I always thought it hindered the show to have anyone other Bill bell being the EP and HW - Maria had no experience in either areas. Now that Griffith isn't fully steering the show, I wonder how this stint will be different from his last one with JFP in the mix.
Members dragonflies
So if she does that, then people aren't wrong when they blame her as much as any HW for awful writing......
Members Y&RWorldTurner
It's her job, every producer should be providing feedback on the breakdown they're responsible for producing. Not a lot of them do it though, certainly not with any objectivity in Maria's case, as she was both the HW and EP. Guza had an almost autonomous rule at GH when it came to writing the show. I'm sure Jill gave notes, but his influence was greater than her's.

Members alphanguy74
If she's good at breakdown, maybe it will be an improvement, because lately the breakdowns have sucked MAJORLY. I'm still not over last week's episode where Phyllis is arrested in front of her children, the culimnation of a 20 year storyline, and then they cut to a scene of Sharon making a plane reservation as the final scene of the day. Who does stuff like that?
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Y&R's breakdown staff has sucked majorly for years now. Every episode I've tuned into has been a disjointed mess with absolutely no structural sense. It's good that they have someone like JFP hammering their asses these days. But, it depends on JFP's vision for this show and the writing staff that Josh Griffith builds too... Y&R's writing team needs a lot of work, and I'm not so sure about Josh Griffith, but it may not matter with JFP in the mix...
Members alphanguy74
One thing that has been missing FOREVER is the incredibly closeup interminable reaction shots... those used to happen nearly at the end of each ACT. An now, they are nowhere to be found. It was a big part of 70's Y&R that made it so riveting. I realize that was Conboy's deal... but damn if it shouldn't be kept. I don't car if Stafford is worried about her crow's feet showing on High Def.
Members LondonScribe
That's something I was wondering. The writing staff. Who decides on writers? The EP or the HW? I think that may determine how it turns out. Whether we get people that were on General Hospital under Phelps/Guza or whether Griffiths can (potentially) persuade Sally Sussman Morina to join and maybe keep some of older writers still on staff to stay. I hold my hands up, I don't know much.
Members frequentsoapfan
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1104059/ I heard the HH cast say Josh Griffith was very hands on with them. But he also was co producer there. Checked his resume. He worked as both a GH breakdown and script writer, didn't know that.
