All shitty actors who should be banned to appear in Daytime ( or at least to take acting lessons! )

Whats your Nominees?

Mine:

1. Drake Hogestyn

2. Jennifer Gareis

3. Ron Moss

4. Lesley-Anne Down

5. Brandon Beemer

(There are many, but this 5 according to me are really horrible bad actors, who are just as bad in anything they does!) Any more actors you like to add?

I think bad actors and daytime go hand to hand. As much as we may dislike some of them, I cant imagine some roles being played by great actors. Hogestyn is one of the worst actors out there but he's perfect for John. Ditto for Ronn and Ridge.

I'm more annoyed by people who are hyped as good actors while being quite shockingly bad (when they even bother to try) huge portions of the time, such as JPL, Chandler Massey, Roger Howarth, TSJ, Bree Williamson, etc.

Amen

Frankly no one is daytime is any good. But then I personally Never watched soaps for great acting. It amazes me how hung up people are on such when most of these so called great actors flop when they move from their catered to role. Howarth on ATWT is a perfect example. Soaps for a while now don't allow for rehearsal time, the direction in most cases is poor, the shooting schedules are such that performances are rushed through, they don't do retakes, the scripts are lousy, and actors have to learn a monumental amount of dialogue each day Why many credit some like they are Meryl Streep amazes me and even Meryl had some stinkers in her career. What passes for good acting today are mostly Tic laden screechy performances which no offense, you can see on a reality show, most of which are more entertaining

than today's soaps.

Drake is just dreadful, but Ron Moss I don't know, his eccentricities I think tend to make him more appealing at least to me.

I think soaps have good actors, but there's no time to give a real performance now, and no time to learn to act, because of the tight taping schedules and the producers and directors who just go for trash. Once upon a time you saw bad actors slowly learning how to do great work, like Tammy Blanchard. Now you just don't get that very often.

That's true perhaps I was being unfair but as you said it's not an environment and hasn't been for quite some time that fosters good acting and allows for growth and improvement. And I think people like Howarth, who I used to like, get by on reputation for the most part vs skills.

Jane Austen great post especially about the tic laden screechy performances. The few good actors are either on backburner or they come on for a year and leave of their own choice or get let go.

To me Roger Howarth has never been a good actor, he just relies on charisma, but that's only me.

I think the only younger actors who have improved on soaps in recent years have been - although I haven't seen enough of everyone to say for sure - Eddie Alderson, and JMW on B&B.

That might be true. Not popular but I've always felt that way about Tony Geary. Id never call him bad but I think most of his career he got by because of his charisma and hammy acting. The only time I felt he improved was during Claire Labine, an era he detested. You very rarely see any nuance or subtly with him. That doesn't make him bad But it doesn't make him great either.

Yea...bad acting and Daytime go well together. The few good actors use Daytime just as a stepping stone a peace out after a few years. But in the general public, this is why people look down on Daytime bc of the horrible acting.

Bad acting and Daytime shouldn't go together in this day and age anymore though. Just like I don't like the words "It's a soap" being used as an excuse for bad acting, writing, overuse of cliches. Because I've seen soaps with great acting, granted they were foriegn soaps but still.

I don't think it's about good actors leaving soaps - many, many bad actors, like Ryan Philipe, have left soaps for bigger things as well. I think there has always been a sneering attitude toward daytime acting, but that was true even when soap acting was generally decent (the 70's and 80's). Only in recent years do I see the acting as seriously declining.

Drake Hogestyn is a bad actor, but he is John Black. Same with Ron Moss, he is Ridge Forrester. Sometimes an actor so embodies a part, that their acting abilities or lack thereof don't really matter all that much. You'll roll your eyes and laugh during some of their scenes, but you can't imagine anyone else playing those roles.

    • I guess it depends on your device.  I can watch CW shows via their website on my Windows PC.
    • Ooooo A Liam episode? I'll watch it later today. They sure are churning the daily episodes out early.

    • Welcome back, Shawn Douglas! It's been a while. It really is too bad that the writers don't really have an interest in the character because there are still a lot of ways that he can be used effectively on the canvas. He should have been a part of the 60th anniversary celebrations as well. If anything, just to represent Bo and Hope. And I'd much rather see Jada paired with him than possibly with Theo. But I enjoyed him getting caught up with Belle, and comforting her. I'm sure they'll find their way back to each other at some point but I do like them as divorced friends. I just hope we see it play out onscreen. Belle being a dick about Sami again was unnecessary though. And we finally saw Liam again!  I'm curious to see how this storyline is going to play out, and who's going to be weaved into it. He and Abe do work well together too. And we learned that he has a kid. Hopefully, we'll learn more about his character in the future. But I'm not really sure about Johnny and Chanel suddenly having problems with raising Trey. They've wanted a baby for so long, so I don't understand why this is even an issue. They should know by now what it's like to raise a baby. But I did enjoy Johnny's scenes with EJ, and that Johnny still hasn't refused to forgive him. This storyline was/is very clunky, but having the two of them be at odds is the right decision. There's so much story potential that can be drawn from that. As for Chad... there was no time for us to see his reunion with Will, but there's time for us to see him talking BS with Leo? I don't get it. And I don't get all this random dating app stuff either. Leo and Javi were boring af too. If we're forced to endure them, can they at least have some real conflict? The two of them losing the baby was the perfect opportunity for it.

    • I enjoy BF better on Days than on YR.   Chad is greater than Cane, in my opinion.
    • Ick! Seeing MS and BF making out as the characters onscreen was just ewwww.
    • The SON board.
