I wonder why they recast Sarah. JMW isn't the best actress in the world, but physically she looks like Laurel, while this new one looks more like a girl-next-door. I knew Kevin Alejandro would end up being a badass.

Kind of snickered my way through Laurel popping some pills and washing it down with more wine. Uh, all this over losing her "boyfriend" Tommy? (I loved Tommy---don't get me wrong..) She had dumped him long before that.

Though now that I think about it, maybe Tommy will turn up alive someday. THAT would make me extremely happy.

I think because she comes off like a wet rag. Part of it's the way the role's written---she doesn't know Ollie is the Arrow, and this season she's going after him (I guess), which makes her his enemy. It's always harder being the "good" girl on any show---they tend to stray into the "vanilla" category. And it's probably worse on a superhero show where stronger women are kicking ass.

People harped on Thea last year for being too whiny (I didn't---I thought she was simply acting the way a lot of teens would in her circumstance), and this year she's stronger--less whiny, less spoiled.

I think Laurel's growing, but there's not enough chemistry between her and Ollie for me to care about their romance.

That article makes me feel incredibly shallow. I like the cast chemistry and hot guys. Arc tragectories and the DC vs. Marvel stuff...yeah, not so much. I can't believe someone analyzes it to that degree. And I found myself a little annoyed at some of the less than accurate descriptions of the story. I mean, I know Merlyn ordered Ollie's father's death, but Ollie's father ended up committing suicide. It may be a nit-pick, but it's one of those things that annoys me.

I'm glad I don't know the DC canon. Now I'm seriously bummed by

Unless I somehow missed that---some of the island stuff confuses me.

Hell yeah---a Laurel free episode!! Love the focus on Diggle, letting him lead story.

sigh Olicity are perfect for each other. I love Felicity being jealous and Ollie saying he doesn't deserve her. Or that he cares about her too much to screw her. However you want to put it.

The show may deviate though because clearly the person the article has slated to become Black Canary is not the current Black Canary. As a comic geek I love all the comic bookisms in it. This last episode alone was filled with name dropping from the comics, and I am hoping a tease of things to come. H.I.V.E., Brother Blood, Amanda Waller, even the mother's lawyer Jean Loring, all come from the comics, and the occasional newscasts on thir TVs about particle accelerators is a neon sign for a certain super hero who I am going to assume will be guest starring on a future episode.

It's not my favorite show, but it is my favorite show on network tv. It is a fun superhero show that has some soap opera elements.

I'm so in the minority. I don't care for Olicity at all and I'm not seeing any chemistry. The actress who plays Felicity, in my opinion, is terrible. Katie Cassidy can act circles, triangles, and squares around her.

The Ollie / Felicity relationship reminds me of Jack Bauer and Chloe's relationship on 24, two colleagues who have each other's backs, nothing more.

Good episode, bummer Count Vertigo is dead. I am fine with Thea being a Merlyn but I am not thrilled that only seven or so episodes since he died, Merlyn is already back from the grave. Sort of ruins the impact of the finale in retrospect. But anyway, the show is one of the best newish shows on TV. I also liked the island episode but as I said a few weeks back I am sort of bored of it. It is this neverending parade of baddies who come to the island to torture Oliver for no reason. Once this crew is dispatched there will be someone else.

I like Oliver and Felicity. Laurel to me is the dullest character on the show and never really does much. Ok, her father and Thea don't do much either but at least in Thea's case that should be changing. All Laurel does is resist her attraction to Oliver. I got the point after 29 episodes and it is time to move on to a new element.

    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
